November 21, 2013

The San Jose Jr. Sharks, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that two players within the organization have signed tenders with NAHL clubs.

San Jose 18U forward Mick Nisbet has signed a tender with the NAHL’s Coulee Region Chill, while San Jose 16U forward Ryan Meure has signed a tender with the NAHL’s Kenai River Brown Bears.

Nisbet, 18, is in his fourth season in the NAPHL. The Sharks 18U forward from Los Gatos, California, is the team captain this season. Nisbet (5’9/145) who is in his second year playing for team 18U team and head coach Nate Weossner, is off to a fantastic start. In his first 19 games, Nisbet leads the 18AAA in scoring with 6 goals and 17 assists for 23 points. He leads the team in assists, 17, as well as power play assists, 5. He also leads the team in short handed goals with 2. Last year, Nisbet also led the team in scoring and helped the team advance to the Pacific District Tournament in Alaska. Last year, Mick had 27 points, 6 goals and 21 assists, in 22 NAPHL games. He also racked up 4 goals and 5 assists in 5 playoff games to help the team win the Consolation Playoff bracket of the NAPHL.

Nisbet played last season for the San Jose 18U team and recorded 27 points in 22 regular season games and nine points in five playoff games. In the two previous seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, Nisbet played in the NAPHL for the Jr. Sharks 16U squad. In 64 career NAPHL regular season games, Nisbet has 60 career points.

"Mick has worked hard over the past couple years and has been very patient with this process. I am happy that he is going to a quality organization in the Coulee Region Chill," said 18AAA head coach Nate Weossner.

Meure, 16, is in his first year with the 16U team and his second season playing for head coach Kyle McLaren, is also off to a very hot start. Meure currently leads the 16U team in scoring with 14 goals and 14 assists. He leads the team in goals, as well as power play goals, with 3. He is tied for the team lead in assists. Meure has been a staple for a good 16U team that has gotten off to an 18-5-4 start, including a 9-1-0 start in the NAPHL.

"Ryan has worked extremely hard on and off the ice not only to become a better hockey player but a teammate and leader. He works hard at every practice and it shows in every game he plays," said 16AAA head coach Kyle McLaren.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 3, 2014.
