January 29, 2013
The Indiana Jr. Ice of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) have announced that 18U forward Andrew Doyon has signed an NAHL tender with the Aberdeen Wings.
Doyon, 17, becomes the third player this season from the Indiana 18U team to sign an NAHL tender, joining Joseph Chitwood (Brookings) and Evan Okeley (Wichita Falls).
The native of Carmel, Indiana, is in his first season with the Ice 18U team. He finished second on the team in scoring this season with 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 18 games played. He helped lead the Ice to 1st place in the Red Division and posted the best winning percentage in the 18U division at.861. Doyon’s (5’10/150) 28 points was tied for 8th in NAPHL 18U scoring.
Doyon finished the NAPHL regular season on a seven-game point streak, which were coincidentally all wins for Indiana. The Ice come into next month’s NAPHL playoffs one of the hottest teams in the 18U Division having not lost a game in regulation since November 9th.
Last season, Doyon was a member of the Indiana Jr. Ice 16U team that captured the NAPHL 16U Championship at the end of the season. Last season, Doyon led the team in scoring with 26 points in the regular season and then led the team in scoring during the playoffs with seven points.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2013.
