PHL announces Peak Performers from Championship Series

March 13, 2012

The North American Prospects Hockey League (PHL) announced its Pointstreak Peak Performers for the month of February.  The players were selected based upon their performance at the 2011-12 PHL Championship Series, which concluded on February 20th at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, MI.

MIDGET MAJOR (18U) POINTSTREAK PEAK PERFORMER-Chandler Madry, forward, California Titans 18U
The California Titans 18U team won their second PHL Championship in the last three years and leading the charge throughout the Championship Series was forward Chandler Madry.  The Bakersfield, California native put together a memorable offensive performance as he led the 18U Division and the Titans in scoring during the Championship series with nine points in five games.  Madry, who is just 16 years old, registered a point in at least all five games which included a goal and eight assists.  In four of the five games he recorded multiple point efforts.  During the regular season, Madry (5’11/180) tied for 4th on the team in scoring with 19 points in 21 games played.

“I believe that Chandler has a very bright future ahead of him,” said Titans 18U head coach Scott Yorkinson.  “Although he was the youngest player on our team this season, but he made such a big impact as was a big part of our Championship success.”

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U goaltender Chase Monroe, 17, appears headed for the big time and his performance at the PHL Championship Series was direct evidence of that.  The native of Naperville, Illinois backstopped the Indiana Jr. Ice 16U team to their first PHL Championship and in the process produced some eye-popping numbers.  Munroe (6’1/185) started in three of the five games and allowed just a single goal in those appearances.  He began the Championship Series with a 17-save shutout in a 3-0 win against the Las Vegas Storm.  He followed that up with a 40-save performance in a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Jr. Titans.  It was all capped off with a 36-save shutout of the Texas Tornado in the 16U PHL Championship game.  Munroe stopped a combined 93 of 94 shots for a 98.9% save percentage and a 0.33 goals against average during the event.

“I thought Chase played very well the entire season and really elevated his game in the playoffs,” said Indiana 16U head coach Mario Doyon.  “Above all else you have to have good goaltending to win a championship and we got that this year.  The guys have a lot of confidence when Chase is in goal because he plays with a lot of calm and composure.”

BANTAM MAJOR (14U) POINTSTREAK PEAK PERFORMER-John Moeller, forward, St. Louis Selects 14U
St. Louis Selects 14U forward John Moeller was not only the top scorer in the 14U Division during the regular season, but the native of Chesterfield, Missouri continued that trend right through the PHL 14U Championship Series and helped the Selects win their first ever PHL Championship.  Moeller, who turned 15 back on February 13th, recorded 11 points (7 goals, 4 assists) in the five games to help St. Louis to the title.  His seven goals during the Championship Series tied for the tournament lead for all divisions.  Moeller (5’9/150) scored at least a goal in four of the five games and included three multi-point games.  He also posted back-to-back four point games against Texas and West Michigan.  Moeller led the 14U Division in scoring during the regular season with 25 points in 14 games.

“John has been able to demonstrate a high level of skill in games the entire season because of he has unbelieveable practice skills and habits,” said Greg Kozicz, head coach of the St. Louis 14U team.  “He works very hard for the points he gets and the production he generates.  He is a great leader, a great kid and we are excited for him to continue success at the 16U level next season.”
