FALL Showcase Recap: Day Three Featured High-Level of Competition at the 18U and 16U Levels

Day three of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) FALL League has wrapped up as the teams brought the energy! Teams at both the 16U and 18U levels kept the intensity high throughout day three. Click here to see all the scores!

18U: 

Amarillo 2 vs. St. Cloud 3 - The St. Cloud Norsemen held off a third-period push from the Amarillo Wranglers to secure a 3-2 victory. St. Cloud opened the scoring in the first period when Daniel Welch III found the back of the net, with Corbin Matanich's assist. Amarillo answered later in the period as George Swanberg scored with Cole Ahneman assisting, sending the teams into the first intermission tied 1-1. The Norsemen regained the lead in the second period when Carter Hays scored, with Matanich earning his second assist of the game. St. Cloud carried a 2-1 advantage into the third period. Amarillo tied the game at 2-2 when Mason Flannery scored early in the third period, assisted by Logan Doten. St. Cloud responded to regain the lead when Matanich scored his second goal of the game. Logan Ylinen and Gavin Ylinen recorded assists on the go-ahead goal. The Norsemen held off Amarillo for the remainder of the third period to secure the 3-2 victory. Matanich finished with two goals and an assist as St. Cloud earned the win.

Minot 8 vs. Austin 5 - The Minot Minotauros used a five-goal second period to build a commanding lead before holding off a late push from the Austin Bruins in an 8-5 victory. Austin opened the scoring in the first period when Luciano Paoli put the Bruins up 1-0. Minot responded when Liam Krengel scored to tie the game at 1-1. Krengel struck again early in the second period to give the Minotauros their first lead of the game. Hudson Bohl recorded an assist on the goal. Minot continued to build its advantage as Brayden Levy extended the lead to 3-1, with Krengel and Theo Gustin assisting. Gavin Wippler then pushed the Minotauros' lead to 4-1, with Krengel and Levy recording assists. Anders Gilbertson added another goal for Minot before the end of the second period, giving the Minotauros a 5-1 advantage heading into the final period. Austin cut into the deficit early in the third when Paoli scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Caleb Dulleck. Minot answered when Tyson Fredrickson restored the four-goal advantage, with Tyler Sporney assisting. The Bruins continued to battle back as Nolan Frank, Gavin Wiedrich and Paoli each scored to cut Minot's lead to 7-5. Ethan Wiedrich assisted on Paoli's third goal of the game. Minotauros forward Anders Gilbertson added his second goal of the night to make it 7-4, before Tyler Sporney scored his second of the game to complete the scoring and give Minot an 8-5 victory. Minot's five-goal second period ultimately proved decisive as the Minotauros held off Austin's third-period comeback attempt to secure the win.

16U:

Kenai River 6 vs. Austin 4 - The Kenai River Brown Bears built an early lead and responded to a third-period comeback from the Austin Bruins to secure a 6-4 victory. Kenai River opened the scoring in the first period when Michael Dove scored with Gabe Young and Easton Gessell assisting. Cole Murphy doubled the Brown Bears' advantage later in the period, with Carter Murphy and Maysn Smith recording assists. Austin answered with two goals to tie the game at 2-2. Caleb Wiedrich scored with Benjamin Conlon assisting before Wesley Mattila added another goal, assisted by Reise Kehren. Kenai River regained the lead before the end of the opening period when Nixon Rodberg scored, with Dove recording his second point of the game. The Brown Bears extended their advantage in the second period when Carter Murphy scored with assists from Gessell and Cole Murphy, giving Kenai River a 4-2 lead heading into the third. Austin mounted a comeback in the final period as Mattila scored twice to complete his hat trick. Kehren assisted on the first goal before Nikolai Dann assisted on the second, tying the game at 4-4. Kenai River answered with two late goals to regain control. Gessell put the Brown Bears back in front at 5-4 before Cole Murphy scored his second goal of the game to seal the 6-4 victory. Evan Milbert assisted on the final goal. The Brown Bears held off Austin's third-period push with two late goals to close out the 6-4 win.

Chippewa 2 vs. Wisconsin 1 (OT) - The Chippewa Steel overcame a one-goal deficit in the third period before Lincoln Mertz scored in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory over the Wisconsin Windigo. After a scoreless opening period, Wisconsin opened the scoring in the second when Easton Saverine scored with Jace Dougherty assisting, giving the Windigo a 1-0 lead. Chippewa answered in the third period when Cal Vezina tied the game at 1-1. R.J. Francois recorded the assist, sending the game to overtime. The Steel completed the comeback in overtime when Mertz scored the game-winning goal. Vezina and Jack Olson assisted on the deciding goal. Chippewa secured the 2-1 overtime victory after holding Wisconsin scoreless through the opening period and responding with goals in the third period and overtime.
