In the Gold Division, the Lake County Vipers continue to maintain their perfect record with a pair of wins over the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Team Wyoming. The Vipers cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Jr. Ducks, with Maddux Kadera leading the charge. He scored two goals and added an assist, boosting his season total to 16 points in 11 games, making him the team’s clear leader in points. Game two was a much tighter contest with a final score of 3-2. Patrick Lynch and Daxton Thomas both found the back of the net in quick succession during the first period, giving Wyoming a 2-0 lead. However, the Vipers responded late, with Owen Elliott cutting the deficit in half just before the buzzer to end the period 2-1. Gurnee, IL native Evan Novak would go on to score two goal, one in each of the next two periods to secure the victory for his squad.
In the Silver Division, the Rose City Pats had an outstanding Saturday, going 2-0 with wins over the St. Louis Sting and Ontario Jr. Reign. In game one against St. Louis, the Pats trailed 3-2 heading into the third period after a back-and-forth scoring battle. Rose City would go on to have an electric third period, scoring two goals including the game winner coming from defenseman Aiden Dorsey-Carro. Game two was a little more dominant for the Pats as they took down the Reign 3-1. After Ontario registered the first goal, Rose City responded well, scoring three unanswered goals to claim victory, all three goals being scored by various players. When looking at the weekend so far as a whole, the Pats’ leading scorer in Taha Saiyed has been on fire, recording a point in each game so far during the event, including two goals against St. Louis - a player to watch as we head into tomorrow.
16U:
In the Gold Division, the Carolina Rage improved to 2-0 on the weekend after a close game with the Chicago Jets. With both teams coming off victories in their opening games, this contest was a showdown to determine who would stay perfect in the win column. The only scoring during regulation came during the first period as the Rage jumped out the gates quickly, scoring just 40 seconds in, coming off the stick of Ronan Redmond. Lucca Ortega would go on to things up for the Jets at the 16:54 mark, his third goal of the season. With the scoreboard reading 1-1 at the end of regulation, blueliner Evan Rottenberger found the back of the net for Carolina to seal the deal. With this win, Carolina will face off with Bishop Gorman tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM.
In the Silver Division, Texas Heat defeated the Oakland Bears in an exciting shootout, putting Texas back in the win column. Alex Kovach netted the game's first goal and the only score of the opening period, giving the Heat a 1-0 lead. San Francisco native Avery St. Onge stole the spotlight in the second period, scoring twice for Oakland and giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame. With their backs against the wall, Weston Jones took matters into his own hands, scoring the game-tying goal less than a minute into the third period—giving his team a huge momentum boost. After a scoreless OT session, both Benjamin Khalil and Will Bache brought the Heat during the shootout, propelling Texas to victory. The Heat will now take on the SISU Thunderbirds at 10:00 AM.
14U:
The Santa Clarita Flyers and Chicago Hawks combined for nine goals, with the Flyers emerging victorious in a 5-4 thriller. Each team netted a goal to begin the game, paving the way for the scoring explosion that followed in the second. During this wild middle frame, both teams traded goals at a blistering pace. The Flyers lit the lamp three times, while the Hawks answered back with two of their own, with every goal coming from a different player. As the dust settled, the Flyers held a 5-3 lead heading into the final frame. Although Chicago managed to add one more goal in the third, Santa Clarita held on to secure a regulation victory.
