The second SHOW event comes to a close
Our second SHOW event of the season has wrapped up here in Marlborough. We had great games at the 14U, 16U and 18U levels and we are so glad everyone could join us in Massachusetts and we look forward to our next event in Michigan! 14U:
The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights defeated the Chicago Hawks by a final score 4-2, getting themselves back in the win column, going 2-2 on the weekend. Four different players found the back of the net, Vegas scoring the first three goals of the contest. Both Evan Lackas and Zane Weibolt netted their first goals of the SHOW season in the second period as the Knights lead 3-1 going into the final frame. Despite Chicago scoring late in the second period and third periods, Vegas came out on top as they were able to score an insurance goal early in the third period, coming off the stick of Lucas Newell.
Similar to Vegas, the St. Louis Sting went 2-2 on the weekend, ending things on a high note with a 4-0 shutout over the Santa Clara Blackhawks. The star of the show was undoubtedly Mason Meuth who lit up the scoresheet as he recorded a hat trick. After Miles Kary opened up scoring in the first, the only goal of the period, Meuth would net his first goal of the game at the 8:50 mark in the second period. To close out the game, the Cottage Hills, IL native scored his second and third goals during the final frame six minutes apart. It is also worth noting that netminder Richard Whittler stood tall between the pipes as he picked up his first SHOW shutout in net.
16U:
The West Dundee Leafs remain the one of the most dominant teams of the weekend, improving to a perfect 4-0 record after defeating the California Wave by a score of 6-3. The first period was nothing short of action packed as the Leafs scored three goals within a one minute span, an incredible offensive effort from Anthony Germann who netted two of out the three goals that period. A total of four goals were scored in the second, both teams notching two apiece. Things slowed down a bit during the final frame as each team found the back of the net, both Leonard Stanley of West Dundee and Ronnie Felikian scoring their second goals of the contest.
The Orland Park Vikings pulled off a huge upset win as they defeated the previously undefeated Santa Clarita Flyers by a score of 4-2. The Vikings asserted their dominance early, scoring their first two goals of the contest in the first period as Ethan Rose scored his fourth goal of the season to get the Vikings on the board at the 4:43 mark. Orland Park would keep things rolling into the second, scoring an additional two goals, all off of the sticks of various players. The Flyers would attempt a comeback scoring two goals during the third period but ultimately could not come back from the four goal deficit.
18U:
The Chicago Hawks maintained a perfect 4-0 record after defeating the Texas Tigers by a score of 5-3. The first period was full of action as the Hawks opened up scoring at the 3:02 mark, coming off the stick of Brayden Myers. The Tigers would respond two minutes later before Chicagoe extended their lead to 2-1 to close out the first frame. Only a goal would be scored during the second period, Logan Wechet scoring his first goal of the season to extend Chicago’s lead to 3-1 heading into the last period. The final frame would have a flurry of goals as each team tallied a pair of goals, Texas coming out hot as Chase Markusson scored two goals for the Tigers, tying things up. Chicago would respond with a pair of goals to secure the win.
The New Jersey Titans continued their momentum from their second game on Saturday as they remained in the win column with a 4-1 victory over the New Hampshire Mountain Kings. The Titans were absolutely dominant throughout the game scoring four consecutive goals, one goal coming in the first and three goals coming in the second. Of the three goals scored during the middle frame, Pittsburgh, PA native Ian McGrath found the back of the net twice, his first two goals on the weekend.
