FALL League Crowns 18U & 16U Champions
The FALL League has come to a close with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs taking home the Championship at the 18U and 16U levels. Thank you to all of our participants, coaches and fans for another great season!
18U:
The Ice Dogs faced off with the Kenai River Brown Bears during the Championship match as Fairbanks came away with a 4-0 shutout victory. Looking back at the regular season, these two teams faced off during the first FALL event as Fairbanks defeated the Brown Bears 6-1.
During Monday’s final contest, four different players found the back of the net for Fairbanks. To no surprise, it would be Matthew Volkman who would come away with two points, the only player in the game to do so. Volkman was the star of the 18U division all season long as he came away as the leading scorer with a total of 27 points (16 goals, 11 assists), including 3 game winning goals, 3 powerplay goals and 3 shorthanded goals.
16U:
At the 16U level, Fairbanks came away with a demanding 7-1 win to take home the hardware. The first two periods of the game would remain close as the Ice Dogs would hold on to a 2-1 lead. During the final frame, the flood gates would open as Fairbanks would go on to score a whopping five unanswered goals to claim the FALL title.
Parker Nivala and Danny Browning would each record three points during the final showdown, Nivala scoring one goal and tallying three assists while Browning would be a huge contributor from the blueline scoring two goals and notching one assist.
