NAPHL SHOW Recap: 10/13

The first SHOW event of the 2024-25 season has concluded and was packed with tons of action at the 18U and 16U levels. With four games played, the standings have taken shape and we have plenty of teams to keep an eye on as the year goes on. To check out the full day of scores be sure to click here!

18U:

There are four teams who are tied for first place in the 18U division with 12 points, one of which being the New Mexico Ice Wolves. When looking at team statistics, the Ice Wolves lead the goals for category with 31 goals, averaging over seven goals per game. Proctor, MN native Austin Bryant has been lighting up the scoresheet with 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in four games. During today’s contest with the Rose City Pats, Bryant was able to score two goals in addition to notching two assists. 

Switching over to another with 12 points in the standings, the Lake County Vipers improved to 4-0-0-0 with a close 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Voyageurs. After a scoreless first period, the Voyageurs opened up the scoring in the second period, putting themselves up 1-0 but the Vipes responded quickly scoring the next four goals during the second frame. Despite Minnesota’s comeback effort scoring two additional goals in the third, Lake County’s netminder in Noah Ingersoll was able to turn away 28 of 31 shots for the victory. 

16U:

Sitting in first place in the standings, the Santa Clarita Flyers remain the only undefeated team in their age bracket with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record. After ending the day yesterday with a close 3-4 victory over the North Carolina Golden Bears, the flyers came out hot, defeating the SISU Thunderbirds with a final score of 8-0 to close out the weekend. During today’s contest, ‘09 forward Jack Slaten was the standout player for Santa Clarita as he was able to net a hat trick to aid his team to victory, bringing his point total to five through the first SHOW event. 

The Chicago Hawks are in a five-way tie for 2nd place in standings with 9 points after posting a 3-1-0-0 record on the weekend. Today’s battle with the California Wave was nothing short of exciting with both teams going back and forth throughout the duration of the game. The third period saw the most action as a total of 5 goals were scored, three coming from Chicago’s squad. Longtime Hawk and current defenseman Jacob Yanez played a key role for the Hawks scoring one goal and tallying one assist.
