NAPHL FALL League Recap: 10/12

18U:
The Austin Bruins not only sit at the top of the standings but also have the top scorer in the age bracket on their roster. Mason DeWees has been an absolute standout as he has been able to rack up 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) in 8 games. During Friday’s game with the Chippewa Steel, the Lakeville, MN native continued his offensive prowess scoring two goals and tallying one assist. As we look forward to Saturday’s matchup, the Bruins will take on a strong Fairbanks Ice Dogs squad, a team they have yet to see this season.
The Odessa Jackalopes have been finding success as they sit just one point behind the Bruins, winning both of their games on Friday against the Wisconsin Windigo and Janesville Jets. During both contests, four different players found the back of the to contribute for their team and it was Carter Johnson who was the lone player who was able to score against the Windigo and Jets. As the top goaltender in the league, Owen Debbert added another win to his resume, bringing his GAA to 1.45 and his save percentage to .944.
16U:
As the third seeded team in the 16U division, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs had a great showing on Friday picking up wins over Wisconsin Windigo and Kenai River Brown Bears. Parker Nivala is definitely a player to watch as we head into the seeding round with three goals and one assist just yesterday, totalling 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) so far this season. In addition to Nivala, Lukas Grabow has been contributing for his squad this weekend with two goals and two assists against Wisconsin and the Brown Bears.
The Chippewa Steel improved to 4-4-1-0 with a pair of wins over the North Iowa Bulls and Janesville Jets. The leading scorer in Nathaniel Spencer has been lights out, tallying 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) over the course of the season, including two goals and four assists on Saturday. In addition to being the leading scorer for the Steel, Spencer is the third overall leading scorer in the 16U division. As we look forward to Sunday, Chippewa will face off with the Austin Bruins at 1:30 PM on rink 6.
