NAPHL SHOW Recap: 10/11

October 12, 2024

The SHOW season is officially underway with day one of the first event in the books. There was plenty of action here in Blaine, MN at the 18U and 16U levels and we will be highlighting a pair of games from each bracket below.

18U:

Team Wyoming had a demanding day one performance with wins over the Ontario Jr. Reign and the San Diego Jets. With 16 goals for and 0 goals against, the offense was clicking with three players registering six or more points in two games. When looking at player statistics, Braxton Thomas has been lighting up the scoresheet with three goals and four assists, two of his goals being scored shorthanded.

Similar to Wyoming, the West Dundee Leafs also asserted their dominance on opening day picking up a pair of wins over the Minnesota Grey Ducks and Minnesota Moose. 11 players for the Leafs have tallied two or more points, the most noticeable contributors being Colin Murphy and Sean Conley. Murphy has buried three goals and tallied one assist while Conley has posted four goals. Both forwards have scored the game winner for their organization and they hope to keep the momentum moving in the right direction as day two gets underway.

16U:

The Rose City Pats are one of five teams that went undefeated on day one with wins over SISU Thunderbirds and Chippewa Steel. The Pats came out of the gates hot with a 9-1 win over the Thunderbirds as Jordan Maquez led the way offensively with two goals and three assists, including a shorthanded goal. Later in the day, Rose City would be tested as the Chippewa Steel kept the game within one goal, the game concluding with a final score of 2-1 thanks to JJ Gonzalez. Gonzalez scored both the goals for the Pats to propel his team to victory.

The Janesville Jets also remain undefeated after a pair of 5-2 victories over the Jacksonville Jr. Icemen and the Bishop Gorman Gaels. During Janesville’s first contest against Jacksonville, the two clubs entered the third period tied at two and it would be ‘09 forward Eli Mattila who would score two goals in the third to help his team capture the win. Against the Gaels, netminder Taylen Graf would stand tall between the pipes making 30 of 32 saves. Offensively, the Jets would pull from depth scoring as four different players were able to find the back of the net.
