NAPHL FALL League Recap: 9/29

September 29, 2024

The second FALL League event is in the books with games wrapping up Sunday afternoon in Blaine. There were plenty of close games and even a few upsets to keep things interesting on the last day of the regular season before the Championship event in just a few weeks.

16U:

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings were served their first loss of the season as the Janesville Jets completed a 6-2 upset. Janesville forward Carter Rosenberg was the star of the show scoring a hattrick to propel his team to victory, his first three goals of the year. With this win, the Jets now sit just two points behind the Mountain Kings in the standings as New Hampshire has 21 points and the Jets have 19.

Similar to Janesville, the Minnesota Wilderness had an upset of their own after they defeated the Minnesota Mallards by a final score of 4-2. Prior to puck drop, the Wilderness entered the game with a 1-6-0-0 record while the Mallards held a record of 5-2-0-0. The Wilderness goaltending duo in Wyatt Brown and JD Wood combined for the victory with 32 of 34 saves. Four different skaters were able to find the back of the net as Keaston Bradley tallied the game winning goal just four minutes into the third period.

18U:

The theme of upsets continues in the 18U division as the New Hampshire Mountain Kings defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears by a final score of 6-4. Prior to this afternoon, New Hampshire had one just one game, while Kenai had won four. Depth scoring was important for the Mountain Kings as six skaters found the back of the net. The team’s leading scorer in Lane Powers was one of the contributors as he now has 10 points in 8 games.

The 4th seed Austin Bruins took home a huge win as they defeated the 1st seed Odessa Jackalopes. Throughout the game, both teams were able to get plenty of pucks on net as the Jackalopes just barely outshot the Bruins 40 to 36. The Jacks would score the first two goals of the game in the first and second periods but the Bruins were able to score four unanswered goals in the third period to secure their victory.

We look forward to being back at the Super Rink in mid-October to crown the FALL League Champions at the 16U and 18U levels.
