Day 1 of October event full of plenty of T1ER action
The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) returned to the Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota on Friday, October 14th on the opening day for the second event of the 2022-23 NAPHL T1ER League as 18U, 16U, 15U, and 14U teams were in action on a full day.
On Saturday, October 15th, the 2022 FALL League Championship will also get underway in addition to the second day of T1ER games.
Day 1 Recaps
18U Division: The Minnesota Magicians defeated United Hockey Federation in a 5-0 shutout. Tyler Coglitore made 20 saves in the shutout while Charlie Rice, Cooper Nielsen, and Alexander Themmes all had multiple points. The Palmyra Black Knight’s scored three goals late in the 3rd period to secure the 3-2 comeback victory over the Arizona Bobcats. David Cook, Matthew Christman, and Will Hershey were the goalscorers for Palmyra. Palmyra continued the day on the win column in their 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Magicians. David Cook had two goals and Keegan Schearer also put up multiple points in the win. United Hockey Federation doubled the Maine Nordiques in offensive output, winning 4-2. Drew Jensen, Grant Baker, Nick Palmer, and Mason Garcia all tickled twine in the victory. The Lincoln Stars controlled the pace the entire game against the Northeast Generals, scoring in each period and winning 6-1. Lincoln forwards Owen Nierman and Mike Baran both had multiple points in the win.
16U Division: The Maine Nordiques topped the Arizona Bobcats in a 3-1 final scoring a goal in each period. Cole Winkler, Dawson Anderson and Braden Franck all scored while netminder Brayden Rassmussen earned the win between the pipes. The Maine Nordiques defeated the Lakers 4-3 with Caden Rehburger’s second goal of the game 3:43 into overtime. Brayden Rassmussen made 17 saves in the win while Maine’s other scorers were Sullivan Swiersz and Sam Jacobs. The Arizona Bobcats blanked the Minnesota Magicians 4-0 thanks to a 25 save performance from Layne Hubert. Nicholas Correnti buried a pair of goals for Arizona while Kyle Ensley and Mitchell Ackermann scored the others. The Walleye took down the Northeast Generals 6-2 thanks to a five-goal 2nd period. Evan Turek made 17 saves for the Walleye while Cade Rose made 37 saves for Northeast.
15U Division: Carshield AAA shutout the Colorado Tigers in a 8-0 final. Defenseman Carter Duy netted two goals, Forward Jason Williams recorded a goal and two assists, and goalie Andrew Bely earned the shutout win. The Esmark Stars blanked the Janesville Jets in a 4-0 game. Marshall Hewitt scored two goals and an assist while Goaltender Tyler Haley posted an 11 shot shutout. After a tied first period, the Philadelphia Little Flyers added a goal in the second and third periods to take a 3-1 win against the Tri State Spartans. Goaltender Basil Hemberger was near perfect in the pipes, stopping 21 of the 22 shots he faced. Biggby Coffee AAA found the back of the net three times in the third period to take a shutout win, 3-0, against the Philadelphia Hockey Club. Tyler Houle earned the win in net while Brayden Sainato, Noah Pearen and Zachary O’Mell all scored. The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights rallied in the third period scoring three unanswered goals for a 4-2 win against the Valley Forge Minutemen. Ryan O’Loughlin scored twice and Dominic Deery scored and handed out an assist. The New Jersey Jr. Titans blanked the Ontario Jr. Reign in a 16-0 final. Dominiks Marnauza, and Nick Kasich both scored a hat-trick while Ryan Tartaglione scored a hat-trick and added 3 assists. Peyton Million posted a 12 shot shutout in the win. The Arizona Bobcats took a 2-0 win over the Northwest Stars. Brandon Koeller and Ryder Gibbs both scored and Logan Gibbs stopped all 20 shots he faced in the win. The Philadelphia Little Flyers shutout the Colorado Springs Tigers in a 3-0 final. Flyers netminder Marco Nagy backstopped 16 shots in the win. The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights blanked the Ontario Jr. Reign in a 14-0 score. Liam Heary totalled 8 points with 4 goals and 4 assists while Kameron Laskaska earned the shutout in the net. The New Jersey Jr. Titans took down the Janesville Jets by a final score of 6-2. Ryan Tartaglione netted two goals in the win. Valley Forge picked up a 3-1 win over Biggby Coffee AAA. Declan Kelly, Matt Barbacane and Hayden Klose all scored and Jacob Aranda earned the win in the net. CarShield AAA defeated the Northwest Stars in a 8-1 score. Mitchell Nappier, Alec Wilson and Brady Price all scored multiple points while Miles Jensen stopped 9 of the 10 shots he faced. The Arizona Bobcats topped the Tri State Spartans in a 4-1 final. Ryder Gibbs added two goals in the win and goaltender Joseph Toporwych stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced. The Esmark Stars took a 13-1 win over the Philadelphia Hockey Club. Vitaliy Ulianov totalled 5 points with 3 goals and 2 assists.
14U Division: Biggby Coffee defeated the Ontario Jr. Reign by a score of 2-1. Toby Perrault and Colton Parraghi scored the goals for Biggby to get the victory. Hunter Clark stopped 14 of 15 shots in the win and Liam Olsen turned away 32 of 34 shots in the loss for Ontario. The Indy Jr. Fuel defeated the Arizona Bobcats by a score of 6-0. Brody Rosswum turned away all 20 shots in which he faced, recording a shutout for the Jr. Fuel and Quinn Clauson lead the charge with 3 points in the contest. The Esmark Stars defeated the Northwest Stars by a score of 4-2. Syjun McHattie had 2 points in the victory for Esmark and Nikita Oleksiienko stopped 17 of 19 shots for the victory, while Mathias Dishneau stopped 21 of 25 shots in the loss for Northwest. The Tri State Spartans defeated Carshield by a score of 3-1. Liam Faulk stopped 25 of 26 shots in the victory for Tri State and Chase Vogelgesang turned away 15 of 18 shots in the loss for Carshield. Biggby Coffee came away with a 3-2 victory over the Northwest Stars thanks to a game-winner with 5 seconds left from Alexander Wainio. Wainio also provided an assist in the game while the other Biggby Coffee goalscorers were Jack Johnson and Conor Day. The Tri State Spartans took down the Ontario Jr. Reign 8-0 while holding them to just 5 shots. Griffin Doxsey and Harper Sullivan both potted a pair of goals for the Spartans in the win. Biggby Coffee defeated the Northwest Stars by a score of 3-2. Alexander Wainio came in clutch for Biggby, lifting them to victory late in the 3rd period. Hunter Clark was the winning goaltender for Biggby, and Dominic Watson picked up the loss for Northwest. The Tri State Spartans dominated the Ontario Jr. Reign by defeating them 8-0. Harper Sullivan led the Spartans with 3 points in the game. Andrew Sallee stopped all 5 shots resulting in a shutout, while Liam Olsen stopped 33 of 41 shots in the loss for Ontario. Carshield defeated the Arizona Bobcats by a score of 4-1. Desmand Allman and Keller Jacobs both shared 2 points in the game for Carshield, and Nathan Arnold was the winning goaltender. The Indy Jr. Fuel defeated the Esmark Stars by a score of 2-0. Hudson Kutchma stopped all 20 shots in which he faced in the victory for the Indy Jr. Fuel.

The October weekend marks the second event for the T1ER League and is the Pre-Tender Distribution Showcase. It is a prime opportunity for players to showcase their abilities as this event is strategically timed right before the release of tenders to NAHL clubs.
What is a tender? A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted 10 tenders, plus or minus any trades, which become active on November 1.
The T1ER 18U and 16U league games were purposefully scheduled on Sunday and Monday for this event. This was done to avoid conflicts with junior clubs playing their own games in an effort for more NAHL scouts and coaches to see more T1ER prospects.
A record number of 66 players who played in the league during the 2021-22 season signed NAHL tenders for the 2022-23 season.
The time has also come to crown a new champion of the FALL league!
Eight teams at the 18U and 16U level will compete for the title as this weekend will be an exciting conclusion to three very competitive events. This championship is scheduled alongside the T1ER Pre-Tender Release Showcase and with the addition of NAHL Central Scouting, creates an exciting atmosphere that maximizes exposure for the athletes.
The FALL league will be wrapping up its third season this weekend and we look forward to another fantastic finish to what has already been an intense and fierce first two events.
At the 18U level the Fairbanks Ice Dogs will try and win back-to-back championships after coming away with a dramatic 4-3 win over the Austin Bruins in 2021. Then at the 16U level it was the Austin Bruins skating off with the title. The Shreveport Mudbugs won both the 18U and 16U championships back in the inaugural 2020 FALL season.
