Austin forward Richards makes NCAA DI commitment
The Austin Bruins, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Jens Richards has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Vermont in Hockey East.
“The Bruins organization has had a huge impact on my career and I couldn’t be where I am today without their help,” stated Jens Richards. “I am extremely excited and blessed to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey and further my education at the university of Vermont! I’d like to thank God, my family, and everyone who has helped me along this journey!”
Richards, 19, has appeared in 100 career regular season games with the Bruins over the past two seasons and recorded 54 points.
The 6’3/205 lbs. native of Callaway, MN, appeared in 51 regular season games during the 2021-22 season and was 3rd in team scoring with 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists).
Prior to his time with the Bruins, Richards spent his prep hockey years in the NAPHL with the Northstar Knights 18U AAA program in Alexandria, MN. He played in the 2019-20 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game and was named the game’s Most Valubale Player.

The University of Vermont is an NCAA Division 1 institution in Burlington, Vermont. The Catamounts are members of the Hockey East Conference and play at the Gutterson Fieldhouse.
