Close games highlight Day 1 of Showcase in Pittsburgh

The sixth NAPHL event of the 2021-22 regular season took to the ice on Friday in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the first T1ER League Eastern Conference event of the season.
Over 60% of the games on Friday were decided by three goals or less on a competitive Day 1 of the NAPHL Showcase in Pittsburgh.
Each team will play in four games during the event, which runs from November 19-21.
Founded in 2009 and celebrating its 13th season in 2021-22, the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) is the NAPHL is the premier training ground for development, exposure, and opportunity. During the 2021-22 season, the NAPHL is made up of four different leagues: Tier 1, Fall, Showcase (Tier II), and Prep (High School).
To date, 18 NAPHL players have been tendered by NAHL teams for the 2022-23 season.

Day 1 Highlights
16U Division: The NAPHL T1ER East Conference Showcase kicked off today with 10 games slated in Pittsburgh, PA. Biggby Coffee AAA started the event off strong with a 6-2 win over New Hampshire Avalanche. The Philadelphia Little Flyers started off their weekend with a statement win where seven different Flyers notched a goal along with Brody Bess finding the back of the net twice for a 9-0 win over the Northeast Generals. Esmark Stars took down the Tri-State Spartans by a final score of 4-2. The Indy Jr. Fuel netted an overtime-winner goal from Austin Haldane for a 5-4 final over the East Coast Spartans. The PHA Icemen defeated the Jersey Shore Whalers by a final score of 7-2. The New Jersey Jr. Titans beat Indy Jr. Fuel by a final of 8-3. The Tri-State Spartans topped the New Hampshire Avalanche in a 3-2 shootout final. In a high scoring affair, the Northeast Generals topped the Indy Jr. Fuel in overtime where Keanu McClanahan (0:55) scored the game winning goal. The Esmark Stars topped the New Jersey Jr. Titans by a final score of 5-2. In the final game of the night, the East Coast Spartans edged Biggby Coffee AAA by a 3-2 final.
18U Division: Thirteen games were scheduled for day one of the NAPHL T1ER East Conference Showcase. In the opening game, the Tri-State Spartans AA shutout the New Jersey Jr. Titans Elite by a 3-0 final. Hunter Gentz tallied two goals in the game, while netminder AJ Cooper was perfect stopping all 27 shots he faced. PHA Icemen defeated the Tri-Valley Bulls where Alex Erlain netted two goals in the 4-2 final. Jersey Whalers forward Egor Bashan started off the weekend with a hat-trick helping his team to a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Little Flyers AA. Hunter Hayes had two goals for the Little Flyers AAA in a win over Tri State. Bryce Boucher and Tyler Agnew both scored twice, while Cole Evans was perfect between the pipes to give Biggby Coffee AAA a 5-0 win over the Northeast Generals. The New Hampshire Avalanche edged the 95 Giants by a final score of 3-2 where Avalanche Forward, John D’errico recorded a hat-trick in the contest. In a high scoring game, the East Coast Spartans dominated the Skipjacks Hockey Club by a final of 8-4 with Stephan Linka scoring a hat-trick. Logan Scanlon of the Esmark Stars netted a goal in the first period that would be the deciding factor for a 1-0 win against the New Jersey Jr. Titans. The Maine Nordiques shutout the Indy Junior Fuel by a score of 3-0. Forward Jackson Truchan scored a hat-trick and netminder Gunnar Stevens was perfect between the pipes. The Tri-Valley Bulls took down the Jersey Whalers 7-4 where Bulls forward Matvey Ivanov netted a hat-trick and added an assist on the night. The Philadelphia Little Flyers AA finished off their day with a 3-1 win over the Tri-State Spartans AA. In the nightcaps, the PHA Icemen picked up a 2-1 win over the Titans Elite and the Tri State Sparts exploded for 12 goals in a 12-0 win over the Avalanche.
