Maryland forward Wegner makes NCAA DI commitment

November 16, 2021

Ladder of Development: Maryland forward Dylan Wegner played in the NAPHL during the 2018-19 season for the Nashville Jr. Predators.

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Dylan Wegner has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Michigan State University in the B1G.

Wegner, 17, is in his first season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’2/174 lbs. native of Nashville, TN, has recorded seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 16 regular season games so far during the 2021-22 season.

He had three points in four games during the NAHL Showcase back in September.

“I am really excited to announce my commitment to Michigan State! It’s been a long process and it’s great to finally come to a decision. My time here in Maryland has been nothing short of amazing, it has been a great place to take the next step in my hockey career. We have an incredible group here and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Very excited for where this is going to take me. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way,” said Wegner.

“Dylan is a bright, young talent, and no doubt has a very good future ahead of him. He is a very focused young man, who had a goal of earning a commitment this season. We are happy to announce Dylan has attained that commitment to Michigan State University, while wearing a Maryland Black Bears jersey. He will be playing in a very competitive Big Ten conference and getting a great education. We are extremely excited, and happy for Dylan and his family,” said Black Bears head coach Clint Mylymok.

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Wegner played his youth hockey for the Bishop Kearney Selects, the Selects Academy, and the Nashville Jr. Predators.

While with Nashville, Wegner played in the NAPHL during the 2018-19 season for the Predators 16U team, where he posted three points in eight NAPHL games that season.
