Shreveport defenseman Hedden makes NCAA D1 commitment
The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman and NAPHL alum Chris Hedden has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the Air Force Academy in Atlantic Hockey.
Hedden, 18, is currently playing his first season of junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’0/187 lbs. native of Kalamazoo, MI, is off to a fast start this season with six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in his first eight games of the season.
I'm proud to announce my commitment to play hockey for The United States Air Force Academy. I'd like to thank my girlfriend, friends, family, teammates, and coaches for helping me achieve this dream and continuing my hockey career,” stated Hedden.
“We would like to congratulate Chris on his commitment to Air Force. Chris is a very versatile defenseman that skates very well. He’s anxious to learn and contribute every day. He’s extremely excited about this opportunity. The Mudbugs staff and players wish Chris the very best with this well-earned opportunity,” said Mudbugs head coach Jason Campbell.
Hedden is another example of the NAPHL to NAHL ladder of development. Last season, he played for the Meijer AAA 18U team in the NAPHL and signed an NAHL tender with the Mudbugs back on November 20, 2019.
While with Meijer AAA in the NAPHL, Hedden was named to the All-NAPHL 18U 1st Team and played in the 2019-20 NAPHL All-Star Game. He made his NAHL debut with the Mudbugs back on October 18, 2019.
