Maryland defenseman Jarman makes NCAA D1 commitment

November 24, 2020

Maryland defenseman Thomas Jarman played a season in the NAPHL prior to his three seasons in the NAHL.

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman and NAPHL grad Thomas Jarman has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Boston University in Hockey East.

Jarman, 19, is in his third season of playing in the NAHL for the Black Bears and serves as assistant captain this season. The 6’3/200 lbs. native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, has recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in eight games played to date during the 2020-21 season.

“Maryland’s where I started my junior career and it looks like it's where I’ll finish it. It's really built me as a player and person, and I know I’ll always be welcome back to visit the coaches, my billets, and many other people that I’ve grown close with over the years here,” said Jarman. “Boston University has a very well known program with a winning history and I’m more than excited to be a part of it.”

Jarman began playing in the NAHL for the Black Bears during the 2018-19 season. During that season, he was selected to play in the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Selects Blue team.

A year later in 2019-20, Jarman had 17 points in 50 games played and was selected for the second year in a row to compete in the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, this time for the East Division team.

Overall in 93 career NAHL games, he has recorded 23 points.

“We are extremely proud of, and excited for Thomas, one of our inaugural season draft picks, and players. He has been a very determined individual to get to where he is now, and it has been fun to watch his trajectory as both a player and leader. Boston University is getting a very tough and talented defenseman, who will be a very strong Division 1 player,” said Maryland head coach Clint Mylymok. “He has been very loyal to our organization, and we have enjoyed watching his progress over the past two and a half years. He has followed the path that the NAHL and Maryland Black Bears provides, and parlayed it into a commitment to one of the NCAA's most storied programs. He has worked very hard for this moment, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a student-athlete at Boston University."

Jarman is another NAPHL to NAHL ladder of development success story, having played in the NAPHL during the 2016-17 season with the Omaha AAA 16U team.
