Knights forward Bronte makes NCAA D1 commitment

June 12, 2020

Knights and Top Prospects forward Tyrone Bronte, an NAPHL grad, has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Alabama-Huntsville.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights formerly of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are excited to announce that Top Prospects forward Tyrone Bronte has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

The 5’10/165 lbs. native of Melbourne, Australia finished this past NAHL season with 12 goals and 36 assists for 48 points in 46 games played. Bronte spent three years in the NAHL, all with Wilkes-Barre, totaling 116 points in 155 career games played.

He was selected to and played in the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team, where he had one assist in two games played.

“We are very happy for Tyrone committing to Alabama-Huntsville. Tyrone was a crucial part of what we built in Wilkes-Barre over the past three seasons, including playing a critical role in our Robertson Cup Finals run in 2018,” said Knights Head Coach/GM Tom Kowal. “Tyrone's approach to the game, both on and off the ice will make him a great addition to Alabama-Huntsville's program and university. We wish him the best of luck in the next step of his hockey journey."

Bronte, 21, is another example of a ladder of development success story from the NAPHL to the NAHL. His play at the midget and junior level has consistently turned heads, enough to earn him the right to play at the highest level of college hockey.

Bronte played the 2016-17 season for the Meijer AAA 18U team in the NAPHL. He was the leading scorer in the 18U Division with 36 points in just 18 games played. He was named to the All-NAPHL 18U 1st Team, as well as, played in the NAPHL 18U All-Star Game.

The University of Alabama-Huntsville plays at the Division I level and are a part of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
