Aberdeen defenseman deVita makes NCAA D1 commitment
April 6, 2020
The Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman Nico deVita has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Ferris State University in the WCHA.
deVita, 18, played in 46 games during the 2019-20 season, which was his rookie season of junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’1/195 lbs. native of Bellevue, Washington, recorded one goal and 11 assists for 12 points. deVita was named to the All-Central Division Rookie Team for the 2019-20 season.
He was also selected to and represented the NAHL Selects Blue team at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in 2020.
“Nico has been a very driven player from the time he joined the Wings during our National Championship run,” said Aberdeen Wings head coach Scott Langer. “He is a hard-working, tough defending player that takes a lot of pride in doing things the right way. The staff at Ferris State got a quality human being and hockey player in Nico.”
deVita is another great example of the NAPHL to NAHL Ladder of Development. deVita played three seasons in the NAPHL for the Everett Silvertips Elite program. From 2016-18, he played for the Everett 16U team, which included an appearance in the 2018 NAPHL 16U All-Star Game. During the 2018-19 season, deVita played for the Everett 18U team.
Overall in three NAPHL seasons, deVita played in 55 career games and recorded 31 points.
“I am very excited an honored to announce my commitment to further my education and play Division I hockey at Ferris State University,” deVita said. “I would like to thank my family, teammates, coaches, friends and God for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. Let’s get to work.”
