Sioux Falls 18U defenseman McAlese signs NAHL tender
March 7, 2020

The Sioux Falls Power of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman and NAPHL All-Star Riley McAlese has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
McAlese, 17, is in his first season of playing with the Power organization and third overall playing in the NAPHL. The 5’10/165 lbs. native of Anchorage, Alaska, appeared in 16 NAPHL games this season with the Power and recorded 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists).
McAlese was also selected to and played in the 2019-20 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game back in December.
McAlese has previously played in the NAPHL for the Alaska Oilers 16U and 15U teams from 2017-19. In 42 career NAPHL games, McAlese has recorded 29 career points.
He is the fourth player from the Sioux Falls Power 18I team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 2, 2020.
