Northstar 18U defenseman Anderson signs NAHL tender
February 5, 2020
The Northstar Christian Academy Knights of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Luke Anderson has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL’s Central Division.
Anderson, 18, is in his second season of playing in the NAPHL for the Knights. The 6’1/180 lbs. native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, has nine points in 15 NAPHL games played this season and 20 points in 35 games played overall.
Anderson was also selected to and played in the 2019-20 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game back in December. Anderson also made his NAHL debut with the Springfield Jr. Blues earlier this season back in November.
Last season, he had six points in 12 NAPHL games played with the Knights.
“Through a long process of interviews, scouting, and visits we have been able to evaluate Luke’s abilities while gaining an understanding of who he is as a person. I have been impressed with Luke’s defensive ability and leadership characteristics and feel he fits well into our prospect roster for next season. We look forward to having Luke with our squad in the 2020-21 season,” said Wilderness Head Coach Jon Vaillancourt.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 2, 2020.
