The Rocky Mountain RoughRiders of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U forward Brent Keefer has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Shreveport Mudbugs of the NAHL’s South Division.
Keefer, 17, and is in his second season overall with the RoughRiders and first season playing at the 18U level. The 6'0/160 lbs. native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, appeared in 16 regular season games during the 2018-19 NAPHL regular season and recorded nine points. He also had four points in four Dixon Cup Playoff games.
Overall, Keefer has played 37 NAPHL games as a RoughRider and has 8 goals and 18 assists.
Keefer began his NAPHL career during the 2016-17 season when he played for the Colorado Springs Tigers 16U team. Overall in his three-year NAPHL career, he has played in 54 career games and recorded 31 points.
"Brent has made good strides this year in understanding the demands of high end hockey. As a coaching staff, we believe he is ready to challenge for a position at the next level and are happy to see him with the opportunity that lies before him," said RoughRiders 18U Head Coach Doug Smail.
Keefer is the third player from the RoughRiders 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
