Wenatchee 18U defenseman Nieusma signs NAHL tender
February 12, 2019
The Wenatchee Wolves of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Andrew Nieusma has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL’s Central Division.
Nieusma, 17, is in his third season of playing in the NAPHL and first season for the Wenatchee Wolves. In 21 NAPHL games this season, the 5’11/190 lbs. native of Superior, Colorado, has recorded 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists). His 12 points was tied for 2nd among all NAPHL 18U defensemen this season.
Nieusma also played on the NAPHL 18U Selects at the NA3HL Showcase this season, scoring one point in three games. He has also played one game for the Wenatchee Wild in the BCHL this season.
Nieusma began his NAPHL career with the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders 15U team during the 2016-17 season, later playing with the Colorado Springs Tigers 16U team during the 2017-18 season.
Overall in 48 career NAPHL regular season games, Nieusma has recorded 17 points.
He is the first player from this year’s Wenatchee Wolves 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
