Alaska 16U forward Link signs NAHL tender
February 8, 2019
The Alaska Oilers of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are please to announce that 16U forward Bret Link has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
Link, 16, is having a very good season for the Oilers 16U team, who won the NAPHL’s 16U regular season title with a record of 13-3-1. The 6’2/170 lbs. native of Anchorage, Alaska, was 3rd in team scoring and 6th in NAPHL 16U scoring with 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 17 games played in league action this season.
During the league’s first event in September in Blaine, Link was honored as the 16U Offensive Peak Performer of the event as he totaled 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) in the first five games of the season.
Link played last season for the Oilers 15U team, which went unbeaten in regulation during the season. He had 12 points in nine games played.
Link is the second player from the Oilers 16U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
