Miners duo sign NAHL tenders

November 19, 2013
The Pikes Peak Miners, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), are please to announce that two members from the 18U team have signed tenders with NAHL clubs.
Defenseman David Dziezawiec has signed a tender with the NAHL’s Odessa Jackalopes of the South Division and forward Evan Butcher has signed a tender with the NAHL’s Kenai River Brown Bears of the Midwest Division.
Dziezawiec, 17, is coming off a strong event at the most recent NAPHL 18U Showcase in Romeoville, IL, where he was named as the Franklin NAPHL Defensive Peak Performer from the event. The native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, registered five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in four games during the event as now leads all NAPHL 18 defensemen in scoring with 16 points. His 16 points is also tied for the team lead. Dziezawiec (5’11/180) has had at least a point in 11 of his 14 NAPHL games played thus far.
Dziezawiec has played the past two seasons outside the NAPHL. However, it isn’t his first stint in the NAPHL as during the 2010-11 season, he played for the Pikes Peak Miners 14U squad. In 10 regular season games, Dziezawiec had nine points that season and four points in four playoff games.
Butcher, 17, is in his first season with the Miners at the 18U level. During the past two seasons, Butcher (5’9/155) has played for the Las Vegas Storm 16U team, former members of the NAPHL.
The native of Anchorage, Alaska is off to a solid start in his first 18U season. Through 14 NAPHL games, Butcher has eight points (2 goals, 6 assists). He had an goal and an assist in the most recent NAPHL 18U Showcase event in Romeoville, IL, as the Miners went 3-1. During the 2011-12 season, Butcher played for the Storm 16U team in the NAPHL where he had three points in nine regular season games. Last season, Butcher had 13 points in 41 total games with Las Vegas.
Butcher’s older brother, Alec, is currently the leading scorer for the Brown Bears and is also an alum of the Pikes Peak Miners having played for the 18U team during the 2011-12 season and the 16U team during the 2010-11 season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 3, 2014.
