New Mexico defenseman Becker makes NCAA DI commitment
The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman and NAPHL alum Mitchell Becker has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for UMass-Lowell in Hockey East.
Becker, 21, just completed his third and final season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’2/215 lbs. native of Rogers, MN, served as one of the assistant captains for the team during the 2021-22 season, which was his career best.
“I’m proud and excited to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Umass Lowell! I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for all their help and support over the years. Can’t wait to get started!” stated Becker.
Becker put up 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 60 games played during the regular season. He had three points in 13 Robertson Cup Playoff games in the Ice Wolves run to the Robertson Cup Semi-Finals. He was also selected to and played in the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team.
Becker made his NAHL debut during the 2019-20 season after beginning the season in the NAPHL with the Omaha AAA 18U team. Becker played in four NAPHL games with Omaha that season before being called up to the Ice Wolves for the remainder of that season.
During his NAHL career, Becker played in 148 regular season games and recorded 49 points in three seasons.
He was also selected to and played in the 2019 NAHL 18U Top Prospects Tournament during the Robertson Cup in May of 2019 for the Minnesota Selects team.
