NAPHL crowns 2022 SHOW League Champions
The 2021-22 NAPHL SHOW League Playoffs concluded on Monday in Detroit with the Semi-Finals and Championship Games in all four divisions.
Monday was also the final day of competition in the NAPHL T1ER event for the 18U, 16U, 15U, and 14U teams in Indianapolis and Detroit as they look forward to their Dixon Cup Playoffs in February.
Day 4 recaps
14U Division: Jaxson Andrews scored six goals and Tobias Tilley added a pair of goals and four assists in the Indy Jr. Fuel’s 15-0 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tyler Williamson scored 51 seconds into overtime to give the St. Louis Knights a 3-2 victory against Highland Park Falcons. CarShield AAA scored four unanswered goals in the 2nd period to help power them past the Esmark Stars 7-2. Andrew Rocha potted a pair of goals and dished a helper in the Naperville Sabres’ 4-2 victory over the Chicago Hawks. Reapers Hockey Association had seven different skaters find the back of the net in their 7-1 victory over the Tri State Spartans. Biggby Coffee’s two goal 1st period was enough to take down the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights 4-1. Goaltender Jake Stanish kept out 26 of 27 shots faced in the St. Louis Knights’ 4-1 win against the Naperville Sabres.
16U T1ER: James Casey stopped all 22 shots faced in the Chicago Jets’ 2-0 victory over the Chicago Bruins. Northstar Knights netminder Merik Grinaker earned a shutout against Biggby Coffee, 5-0. Colin Ralph added two assists for CarShield AAA in a 3-1 win over the Esmark Stars. Indy Jr. Fuel forward Drew Spaulding netted a hat-trick in the Fuel’s 6-4 victory against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Highland Park Falcons goalie Kieron Wise shutout the Northwest Chargers in a 1-0 final. Reapers Hockey Association goaltender Pierson Haislet posted a shutout against the Tri-State Spartans in a 9-0 final score. Ryan Jim found the back of the net in overtime to send the Arizona Bobcats over the Madison Capitols, 4-3. Colorado Springs Tigers forward Jake Wenner totalled 4 points with 3 goals and an assist in the Tigers 8-2 take down of the Northwest Stars.
16U SHOW Championship: William Leshnock scored 1:52 into the overtime period to provide the Chicago Jets with the 16U White Championship. James Casey was sturdy in net for the Jets, stopping all but one of 22 shots faced.
15U SHOW Championship: The Affton Americans took down the Chicago Bulldogs 3-2 to take home the 16U Blue Championship. Zeth Jordan, Tanner Bettis, and Andrew Fendler were the goalscorers for Affton.
18U Division: Cayden Sweitzer buried two goals and provided an assist to help the Chicago Bruins take down the Philadelphia Little Flyers 6-3. The St. Louis Sting took down the Tri State Spartans 3-2 in thrilling fashion as Samuel Beumer scored 56 seconds into overtime to win it. Eli Banko added two assists in the Biggby Coffee AAA 4-3 win over CarShield AAA. Northstar Knights forward Reese Laubach added 5 points in a 6-1 win against the Esmark Stars. PHA Icemen topped the Chicago Hawks in a 4-1 win where four different Icemen scored. Highland Park Falcons goaltender Noah VanHerik posted a 29 shot shutout against the Cherry Creek Hockey Academy, 2-0. The Gurnee Vipers took down the Texas Jr. Brahmas in a 2-1 final. New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves forward Collin Mohr added 3 points in the Ice Wolves 4-2 win over the Clearwater Ice Storm. Anaheim Jr. Ducks topped the Montana Big Sky Stars in an 8-2 final score where Ducks forward Nico Leone added 3 points. Bradley McMains and Luke Lisnic both deposited a goal and an assist in the Reapers Hockey Association’s 4-1 victory over the Indy Jr. Fuel. Matthew Sycerson stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-1 win over the Tri State Spartans. Mission Arizona forward Aiden Werner netted a hatrick in a 5-1 win over the Ogden Mustangs. The Northwest Chargers topped the Arizona Hockey Union by a final score of 4-2. Carsen Elrod netted 3 points for Monument Hockey Academy in a 7-1 win over the Columbus Thunderbirds. Northwest Stars goaltender Rhys Netherton posted a 24 shot shutout against the Arizona Bobcats, 3-0. Shattuck St. Marys had topped the Colorado Springs Tigers 5-1.
18U Semifinals: Kirill Konoplianko potted a pair of goals in the first 18U semi-final to help the Tri Valley Bulls take down the Naperville Sabres. Felix Busel also added a goal and assist in the victory. The Texas Tigers advanced to the championship after defeating the West Dundee Leafs 3-1. Forward Noble Cook helped fuel the victory with two goals and an assist.
18U Championship: Felix Busel and Kirill Konoplianko picked up offensive momentum from their semifinal matchup, both tickling the twine to help deliver the Tri Valley Bulls the 18U Championship honors. Josh Purpura had a great performance in net for the Bulls, allowing one goal on 25 shots.
