Sioux Falls 18U goalie Benson signs NAHL tender
November 19, 2018

The Sioux Falls Power of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U goaltender Brandon Benson has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL’s South Division.
Benson, 16, is in his first season playing in the NAPHL for the Power. The 6’4/195 lbs. native of Blaine, Minnesota, is off to a great start this season, posting a 3-2-2 record in his first seven NAPHL games and is among the NAPHL 18U goalie leaders in save percentage (.955) and goals against average (1.27).
Benson was named the NAPHL’s 18U Goaltender Peak Performer from the first event in September. He posted two shutouts at the event and stopped all 54 shots that came his way in the two wins. That included a 23-save shutout in a 6-0 win over the Janesville Jets 18U team in his first game and a 31-save shutout in a 1-0 overtime win over Lake Forest Academy.
Last season, Benson played high school hockey in Minnesota for Blaine High School, compiling a 5-7-1 record during the regular season with a 2.87 goals against average and .912 save percentage.
Benson is the third player from the Sioux Falls 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
