Brookings forward Boyer makes NCAA DI commitment
April 5, 2018
The Brookings Blizzard, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Josh Boyer has committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, a member of the NCHC Conference.
Boyer, 18, who is a native of Wasilla, Alaska, has been a standout in his first year in Brookings with his point-per-game production. Boyer (6’2/182) has led the Blizzard in points (56), goals (27), assists (29), and power play points with 16. Boyer’s two game winning goals both came in overtime.
Boyer was also selected to and played in this year’s NAHL Top Prospect Tournament where he scored one goal in two games for NAHL Selects red team.
“I feel honored and excited to have this opportunity to play Division I hockey for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Once I visited campus I knew it was the right choice. It gave me a feeling of familiarity, since I used to go to UNO games in my younger years. I like the coach’s philosophy and their dedication to continuing my development into the best hockey player I can be. I’d like to thank Coach Moe Mantha for my time in Brookings. I’ll use what I learned from Moe throughout my career, and in life. I want to also thank my family and my teammates for all their support,” said Boyer.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Boyer spent two seasons in the NAPHL playing for the St. Louis Selects (now CarShield AAA). During the 2015-16 season he recorded 22 points in 25 games played with the 16U team and during the 2016-17 season he played five games with the 18U team after beginning the season in the NAHL with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
“Josh is a leader by example with his work ethic both on and off the ice. UNO is getting a very good hockey player with tons of potential ahead of him. Boyer has great character who will one day be a leader for the Mavericks,” said Blizzard head coach Moe Mantha.
