Valley Forge 18U forward Canestra signs NAHL tender

November 30, 2016
The Valley Forge Minutemen, proud members of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U forward Hunter Canestra has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Northeast Generals of the NAHL’s East Division.
Canestra, 17, is in his first season playing in the NAPHL for the Minutemen. The 6’3/194 lbs. native of Gilbertsville, PA, is tied for the team lead in scoring this season with nine points in just eight games played.  He has recorded at least a point in seven of his eight games played this season.
Last week, Canestra was named to the NAPHL 18U All-Star Game, which will take place on Sunday, December 4th at 8pm.
“I would like to thank the Valley Forge Minutemen for all their support. They have helped me to maintain confidence and the skill set needed to acquire a tender offer from the Northeast Generals (NAHL). By playing with the Valley Forge Minutemen in the NAPHL and AYHL it gives me the exposure I need to get to the next level,” stated Canestra.
“Hunter is a skilled player. In my mind he is just coming into his own of how good he can really be. His ability makes players around him better,” said Sean Cannon, Head Coach of the Minutemen 18U team. “We are fortunate to have Hunter with us this season and wish him the best in the future for our club and with the Northeast Generals.”

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2017.
