Semi-Finals set for 18U and 16U in Championship Series

February 18, 2012

After two days of the PHL Championship Series, the field in the 18U and 16U Divisions has been narrowed down to four teams in each division still with a chance to be called 2012 PHL Champions.  The semi-finals in each division is set to take place on Sunday, February 19th.  Here is a look at the match-ups and how they got there:

18U Gold Division
Just like they had all regular season long, the Pittsburgh Viper Stars rolled through the first three games of the round-robin with an undefeated record, earning them the #1 seed out of the Gold A Division.  They will face the Detroit Falcons, who took the #2 seed in the Gold B Division with a 2-1-0 record thanks to a 3-1 win over Phoenix in the last game of the round-robin.  Despite their only round-robin loss on Saturday to Pikes Peak in the final seconds, the California Titans earned the #1 seed from the Gold B Division thanks to their better head-to-head record against Detroit.  Orange County shutout Wenatchee on Saturday 2-0 to earn the Gold A Division’s #2 seed and will face in-state rival California in the semi-finals.
