Fourth PHL event of the year set to begin in Dallas, Texas

December 27, 2011

The North American Prospects Hockey League (PHL) season resumes this weekend, with its fourth event of the year taking place from December 28-31 at three of the local Dr Pepper StarCenter’s in suburban Dallas, Texas.

All Midget Major, Midget Minor and Bantam Major programs will compete at the event.

“We are excited to be putting on our first ever event during the holiday season and thrilled that we could add a new location to our event rotation,” said PHL Director Denny Scanlon.  “The timing of the Dallas event allows our student-athletes the chance to get in a series of important NAPHL regular season games without missing any school days.  This event marks a critical time of year as teams prepare for the PHL Championship Tournament Series, so the level of competition should be very good.”

After the season’s third event held in Darien, Illinois from Dec. 2-4, which featured all the PHL’s 18U teams, the Pittsburgh Viper Stars find themselves alone at the top of the 18U Division.  They are followed closely by the Lansing Capitals, Detroit Falcons, Pikes Peak Miners and California Titans.

In the 16U Division, the San Jose Jr. Sharks lead the way with an 8-1-0 record.  Right behind them sits the Indiana Jr. Ice, New Jersey Jr. Titans and Pittsburgh Viper Stars, all with identical 7-2-0 records.  This will be the first time since October 24th the 16U Division will be in action in the PHL.

Fans will also get to see the return of the Bantam Major 14U Division which will feature six teams competing in Dallas: California Titans, Dallas Stars Elite, San Jose Jr. Sharks, St. Louis Selects, Texas Tornado and West Michigan Hounds.

This weekend’s event in Dallas has a lot to offer for fans and players. Being held in the heart of the NAHL’s south division footprint it’s certain to provide outstanding scouting opportunities for all of the players as they garner exposure at an event located within easy driving distance for all of the Texas-based NAHL teams. Additionally, both the Texas Tornado of the NAHL and the Dallas Stars of the NHL have stepped up to the plate with special ticket offers for NAPHL players and parents.

Following the event in Dallas, all PHL teams will compete from January 13-16, 2012 at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Michigan to conclude the PHL’s regular-season schedule.

The Championship Tournament Series is scheduled for February 17-20, 2012 at the Troy Sports Center in conjunction with the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.
