NAHL names Tyler Giwerowski as next Kim Cannon intern

June 3, 2022

Tyler Giwerowski

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) is pleased to announce that Tyler Giwerowski has been selected as the next recipient of the Kim Cannon Internship.

The Kim Cannon Internship was established back on June 2, 2021, by the NAHL, in cooperation with Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach and former NAHL head coach Jon Cooper and is intended for a recent college graduate interested in pursuing a career in sports. Giwerowski takes over for Hunter McHaffey, who recently concluded her duties as the very first Kim Cannon Intern.

It is named for a former employee of an NAHL team named Kim Cannon. Back on September 9, 2020, Cannon was involved in an automobile accident which tragically took her life at the age of 35.

“Being awarded the NAHL’s Kim Cannon Internship is a dream come true for me. Kim's outlook on life and her influence on the hockey community is inspiring. I am looking forward to learning every aspect of what it takes to run such a prestigious league. I plan on carrying Kim's legacy on with me every day in and around the rinks,” said Giwerowski.

Giwerowski is a recent graduate of Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, with a bachelor’s degree in the Organization of Psychology and Sports Management. While at Rider, he was a member of the ACHA Division II Ice Hockey team where he served as the Public Relations Officer, Team Captain, and Team President. During his time as an undergraduate, he was also employed with The Madison Square Garden Company and the New York Rangers as a Hockey Instructor within the Junior Rangers Program.

“First, I would like to thank Hunter for her year of service to the NAHL as the first Kim Cannon Intern. She was remarkable in her efforts and work ethic and leaves us having established the groundwork and expectations for what future Kim Cannon Interns should aspire to. We will certainly miss her,” said NAHL Commissioner and President Mark Frankenfeld. “Tyler impressed all of us through every step of the application process. He brings a wealth of hockey experience to the NAHL, not just from a playing side, but from an organizational and youth hockey side as well. We believe his background will lend itself well to all areas within the NAHL.”

“I would like to congratulate Tyler on being named the next recipient of the Kim Cannon Internship. I also want to thank and congratulate Hunter for a job well done as the very first Kim Cannon intern. Kim would have been very proud. This internship is an annual reminder of the impact that Kim Cannon had on the NAHL, and I am excited to see it continue into Year 2 of its existence. I wish Tyler good luck and will be looking forward to seeing this internship continue to grow,” said Jon Cooper, head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
