Dixon Cup stage is set for Championship Monday
The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) continued its T1ER Dixon Cup Playoffs and Championship on Sunday, February 20th in suburban Detroit, Michigan.
Day 3 saw action in all of the age groups as play started to conclude with the quarter-finals and consolation games playing out. The final day of the event is on Monday, February 21st as more Semi-Finals get played out in the 14U and 15U Divisions, setting the stage for the Championship Games later on Monday.
There will be Playoff Champions crowned in the 18U, 16U, 15U, and 14U Divisions in the T1ER League in addition to the PREP League.
Three different arenas will be used this weekend, which includes the Troy Sports Center, Suburban Ice Rochester, and Suburban Ice Macomb.

18U Division - Fort Collins High School shut out the Portland Jr. Winterhawks Prep in a 3-0 score. Fort Collins forward Riley Laub scored and added an assist. The Des Moines Buccaneers took a 5-4 overtime win against the Arizona Bobcats. Buccaneers Ryan Berglund netted two goals including the overtime game winner. Shattuck-St. Mary scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 overtime final versus Indy Jr. Fuel. Shattuck defenseman Kieran Ronan celebrated after scoring the game winner. Regis Jesuit defeated the East Coast Spartans, 6-2. Forward Carter Schick and Sean Holloway both scored and added an assist. Team Alaska picked up a win over the 96 Giants, 4-1. Alaska forward Carter Poisson added 3 points with 2 goals and 1 assist. The Ontario Jr. Reign topped the Northeast Generals in a 5-1 score. Tyler Donovan of the Reign lit the lamp twice in the win. The Northstar Knights took down the Tri-State Spartans, 5-1. Knights forward Jaxon Grosdidier scored two goals. CarShield AAA scored a third period goal to take a 1-0 win against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Ben Winklemann of CarShield was the goal scorer. The Madison Capitols took a 7-6 overtime win against Denver East High School. In the extra frame, Jacob Barth scored an unassisted goal for the win, while also adding an assist in regulation. The Maine Nordiques edged the Reapers Hockey Association, 3-2. Maine added three goals in the second and held the lead as Ryan Panico helped on all three goals (2G, 1A). Biggby Coffee AAA scored a late third period goal to win 2-1 against the Esmark Stars. Biggby forward Gavin Duckworth scored both of the goals. After being tied 1-1 for two periods, the West Coast Renegades scored three goals in the third period for a 4-3 final and win over the New Hampshire Avalanche. Defenseman Cole Bisson scored twice and helped on a goal with an assist. Fort Collins High School defeated the Pacific Ridge Hockey Club in a 4-2 final. Fort Collins forward Peter Kelly scored 2 goals in the contest. Denver East High School took down the Portland Jr. Winterhawks Prep by a 4-1 score. Denver’s Colby Asheim totaled 3 points and Joseph Capra handed out 3 assists. The Northstar Knights defeated the Maine Nordiques to claim a spot in the 18U Dixon Cup Championship game in a 3-1 final score. Dylan Cook (0:52) made it a 1-0 lead for the Knights, but soon after Connor Miller (1:20) evened the game. Soon after, Brian Morse (3:33) took the lead back for the Knights 2-1. In the third, Carter Olson (8:06) netted the game winning goal for a 3-1 final. Goaltender CJ Kier was near perfect stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced in the win. Biggby Coffee AAA topped CarShield AAA to claim the second spot in the Dixon Cup Championship game, 6-1. Biggby added two goals in all three periods as Max Martin and Bradyen Barlett scored twice and Noah Foucha added one. Netminder Ben Daguanno played great in net stopping 19 of 20. Biggby Coffee AAA will face off against the Northstar Knights for the 18U Dixon Cup Championship tomorrow.
16U Division - The Ontario Jr. Reign defeated the East Coast Spartans 9-4. Reign forwards Adrian Gomez and Trevor Lewis both recorded 4 points (1G, 3A). The Des Moines Buccaneers won 6-1 against the Indy Jr. Fuel. Buccaneers forwards Griffin Riemersma and Padraic Whited both scored 2 goals and an assist. The NorthStar Knights came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-3 against CarShield AAA. The Reapers were tied 1-1 against the Philadelphia Little Flyers after the first, then scored in the second to hold on for a 2-1 win. The Esmark Stars topped the Maine Nordiques, 4-1. Four different Stars scored in the win. Biggby Coffee took a big win over the Vegas Jr. Knights in a 7-2 final score. Biggby’s Luke Grutta scored a hat-trick and an assist. The Arizona Bobcats double the score of the Tri-State Spartans for a 4-2 win. The New Hampshire Avalanche found the back of the net eight times against the West Coast Renegades for a 8-1 final. Two Avalanche forwards, Thomas Titone and Jeremy Poirier both scored two goals. A third period goal would be the deciding factor for the Ontario Jr. Reign to take a 2-1 win against the Madison Capitols. Dalton Thomas of Ontario recorded a goal and an assist in the game. The Des Moines Buccaneers shutout the Reapers Hockey Association in semi-finals game one by a final score of 1-0. Buccaneers Vincent Leaf scored just 0:19 into the first period while Goaltender Gabe Otis turned away all 27 shots he faced. The Esmark Stars took on the Northstar Knights to go to the Dixon Cup finals. After two scoreless periods, Esmark broke the tie with Nathan Burlando scoring at 12:26. Later in the final frame the Knights evened the game 1-1 with Bronson Hunt scoring at 16:38. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a shootout. Nathan Burlando was the seventh shooter for the Stars and capitalized finding the back of the net for a 2-1 win. The Des Moines Buccaneers and Esmark Stars will face off for the 16U Dixon Championship tomorrow.
15U Division - The Tri-State Spartans took an overtime win against CarShield AAA, 4-3. Just fifty-eight seconds into the extra frame, Jake Thornton scored an unassisted goal for the win. The Indy Jr. Fuel took a 4-2 win over Biggby Coffee AAA after scoring 2 goals in the third. The New Jersey Jr. Titans kept the Des Moines Buccaneer off the scoresheet in a 4-0 final score. Goaltender Erez Yacobi posted a 20 shot shutout in the win. Philadelphia Little Flyers netminder Henry Goossen recorded a shutout win against the Ontario Jr. Reign in a 3-0 final. The Reapers Hockey Association defeated the Colorado Springs Tigers in a 4-1 score. Reapers forward Connor Hirschtritt totalled 3 points with 1 goal and 2 assists.
14U Division - Biggby Coffee AAA defeated the Arizona Bobcats 5-1 after a strong second period scoring four goals then adding another in the third. The Reapers Hockey Association shutout the Northwest Stars, 8-0. Reapers forward Ed Sekera netted a hat-trick and goaltender Norbert Bdzoch earned the shutout win. The Esmark Stars held the Indy Jr. Fuel from scoring in a 5-0 final score. Goaltender Kyle McLaughlin posted a 25 shot shutout win. Tri-State Spartans beat down on the Des Moines Buccaneers in an 8-1 final score. Alex Akins totalled 5 points for the Spartans with 2 goals and 3 assists. The Madison Capitols held on to take a 3-2 win over the Valley Forge Minutemen. The New Jersey Jr. Titans won in overtime against the Colorado Springs Tigers, 3-2. Wyatt Capro netted the game winning overtime goal for the Titans.
