Dixon Cup Playoffs enter showdown Sunday

The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) continued its T1ER Dixon Cup Playoffs and Championship on Saturday, February 19th in suburban Detroit, Michigan.

Day 2 saw action in all of the age groups as the 14U and PREP Divisions joined the fray. Day 3 is on Sunday, February 20th as the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals get played out, setting the stage for the Championship Games on Monday.

There will be Playoff Champions crowned in the 18U, 16U, 15U, and 14U Divisions in the T1ER League in addition to the PREP League.

Three different arenas will be used this weekend, which includes the Troy Sports Center, Suburban Ice Rochester, and Suburban Ice Macomb.

Day 2 recaps

18U Division - The Ontario Jr. Reign topped the 95 Giants in an 8-1 final. Reign forward Trevor Loucks added four points with a hat-trick and an assist. The West Coast Renegades edged the East Coast Spartans 2-1. Defenseman Cole Bisson and Forward Alex Bartakovics both added two assists. The New Hampshire Avalanche took down Team Alaska in a 6-1 final. Avalanche forwards John D’Errico and Hunter Wolfrey both netted two goals. The Madison Capitols blanked the 95 Giants in a 3-0 final. Capitols forward Jacob Barth netted a goal and an assist. Biggby Coffee scored a third period go ahead goal to take a 4-3 victory over the Indy Jr. Fuel. Philadelphia Little Flyers picked up a 5-2 win over the Tri-State Spartans. Flyers defenseman Jack Costabile added 3 points with 1 goal and 2 assists. The Northeast Generals held a one goal lead until the final buzzer taking a 3-2 win over the Ontario Jr. Reign. Forward Nolan Zotter netted a goal and added an assist. CarShield AAA netmind Brady Govero posted a 20 shot shutout to earn a 3-0 win over the Arizona Bobcats. The Northstar Knights took down the Maine Nordiques, 4-1. Knights forward Dylan Cook netted two goals and handed out an assist. Shattuck-St. Mary’s handed the Des Moines Buccaneers a 2-1 loss. Shattuck forward Alex Dell found the back of the net twice. The Reapers Hockey Association picked up a 5-2 win over the Esmark Stars. Reaper defenseman Jack Keane added 3 assists in the win.  

16U Division - The Ontario Jr. Reign shutout the West Coast Renegades in a 7-0 final. Goaltenders Nathaniel Jansen (42:30) and Navann LaMarre (8:30) shared time between the pipes in the win. CarShield AAA shutout the East Coast Spartans in an 8-0 final score. CarShield goaltender Branson Appelman posted a 14 shot shutout in the win. The Reapers Hockey Association picked up a 4-1 win over Biggby Coffee AAA. Reaper forward Caden Michael lit the lamp twice in the contest. The Esmark Stars silenced the New Hampshire Avalanche in a 7-0 game. Stars goalie Iannico Amaranto stopped all 21 tries earning the shutout. The Des Moines Buccaneers AAA squad earned an overtime win against the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights, 3-2. Cooper Johnson scored in the extra frame to get the win for Des Moines. The Philadelphia Little Flyers turned down the Madison Capitols in a 6-0 final. Flyers netminder Christian Amato earned the shutout between the pipes. The Northstar Knights took down the Tri-State Spartans in a 4-1 final score. Knights defenseman Bauer Berry added two points with a goal and an assist. The Maine Nordiques won 5-1 over the Indy Jr. Fuel. Forward Ben Lees picked up 3 points with two goals and an assist. The Arizona Bobcats took down the West Coast Renegades in a 8-1 game. Bobcat forward Josef Bauer scored a hat-trick and added an assist in the win. Biggby Coffee AAA snuck passed the East Coast Spartans in a close game, 3-2. Biggby forward Luke Grutta scored 2 goals and added an assist. The Reapers Hockey Association took a 4-3 overtime win over CarShield AAA. Owen Drury scored the game winning overtime goal at 1:09 in the extra frame. The New Hampshire Avalanche out scored the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights in a 4-3 game. Samuel Chapman netted two goals in the win. The Des Moines Buccaneers blanked the Esmark Stars in a 2-0 final. Goaltender Gabe Otis turned away 29 shots in the shutout win. The Tri-State Spartans scored a goal in each period for a 3-1 win over the Madison Capitols. Spartans forward Enzo Giuliani found the back of the net twice in the win. The Northstar Knights kept the Philadelphia Little Flyers off the scoreboard in a 4-0 win. Goalie Max Weilandt posted a 27 shot shutout in the win. The Maine Nordiques double the score over the Ontario Jr. Reign in a 6-3 game. Aleksander Suvorov added three points in the win, scoring two goals and adding an assist. The Indy Jr. Fuel edged the Arizona Bobcats, 2-1. 

15U Division - The Reapers Hockey Association defeated the New Jersey Jr. Titans in a shootout, 4-3. Nate Schaefer, who was the fifth shooter for the Reapers, netted the game winning goal. Biggby Coffee AAA shutout the Philadelphia Little Flyers 7-0. Goaltender Zachar Jaakkola turned away all 10 shots he faced while Forward Cole Moyses notched 4 points (2G, 2A). The Colorado Springs Tigers passed the Des Moines Buccaneers in a 2-1 final score. Tiger forwards Quinn Tefertiller and Cael Freehling both found the back of the net twice. The Tri-State Spartans held the Ontario Jr. Reign from scoring in a 3-0 final. Tri-State netminder Wes Wojtowicz earned the shutout between the pipes. CarShield AAA blanked the Indy Jr. Fuel 3-0 with Oscar Pupillo in net stopping all 27 shots. 

14U Division - Biggby Coffee AAA blanked the Colorado Springs Tigers, 7-0. Biggby goaltender Tyler Houle earned the shutout. The Indy Jr. Fuel topped the Arizona Bobcats in a high scoring game, 9-5. Fuel forward Jaxson Andrews totalled 4 points with 3 goals and 1 assist. Reapers Hockey Association shutout the Des Moines Buccaneers in a 12-0 final. Reapers Goaltender Norbert Bdzoch stood tall between the pipes while Forward Mason Minsky recorded 3 goals and 1 assist. The Esmark Stars shutout the New Jersey Jr. Titans in a 3-0 final. Stars goaltender Kyle McLaughlin posted an 18 shot shutout in the win. The Madison Capitols edged the Ontario Jr. Reign, 5-4. Capitols forward Eli Hahn scored twice and added an assist. CarShield AAA topped the Valley Forge Minutemen 6-2. CarShield forward Jackson Fox netted a hat-trick in the win. The Northwest Stars defeated the Tri-State Spartans in a 3-2 final. Stars forward Seth Banners totalled two points with a goal and an assist. The Indy Jr. Fuel held the Colorado Springs Tigers to a 3-1 final. Indy forward Peyton Crerar recorded two points in the win. The Arizona Bobcats edged the New Jersey Jr. Titans in a 4-3 contest. Bobcat forward Benjamin Jones netted two goals in the game.  The Northwest Stars took down the Des Moines Buccaneers in a 4-1 game. Four different Stars scored in the contest. Reapers Hockey Association dominated against the Tri-State Spartans in an 11-1 score. Reapers forward Aiden Wells totalled 5 points with a hat-trick and 2 assists. Valley Forge Minutemen took a 6-1 win over the Ontario Jr. Reign. Forward Eric Zager scored twice and Kieran Crossan handed out 3 assists. CarShield AAA defeated the Madison Capitols in a 9-3 final score. CarShield forward Matt Muenz totalled 3 points with 2 goals and an assist.

PREP - Regist Jesuit defeated Pacific Ridge Hockey Club in a 3-2 score. Regis forward Robbie Dembeck recorded 3 points with 2 goals and an assist. Denver East High School took down Fort Collins High School in a 5-2 game. Denver forward Connor Hasse totalled 3 points with 2 goals and an assist. Regis Jesuit shutout the Portland Jr. Winterhawks in an 8-0 final score. Forward Sean Holloway totalled 4 points adding a hat-trick and an assist. Pacific Ridge fell to Denver East High School in a 9-4 final score. Denver forward Connor Smithburger put up 7 points in the win with 4 goals and 3 assists.
