SHOW Playoffs underway with busy Day 1

The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) began its Showcase (SHOW) League Playoffs and Championship on Friday, January 14th in suburban Detroit, Michigan.

There were plenty of games and action in the 18U, 16U, and 14U Divisions. The action continues on Saturday, January 15th with more round-robin games and teams try and qualify for the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The SHOW Playoffs are the third and final event of the 2021-22 season for the SHOW League. Previous regular season events have been held in Blaine, MN, and Frisco, TX.

There will be Playoff Champions crowned in the 18U, 16U, 16U Elite, and 14U Divisions.

Four different arenas will be used this weekend, which includes the Troy Sports Center, Suburban Ice Rochester, Suburban Ice Macomb, and Suburban Ice Royal Oak.

Day 1 Highlights

18U Division: The Chicago Hawks defeated the Northwest Chargers in overtime fashion, 6-5. Under a minute into the extra frame, James Quinn netted the game-winning goal. Lance Leigh had a hat-trick in a 7-2 victory for the Highland Park Falcons over Arizona Hockey Union. Max Hove and Matthew Lim both recorded a hat-trick in an 11-2 win for the Tri-Valley Bulls against Monta Big Sky Stars. John Hennessy scored twice in a 4-2 win for the Naperville Sabres against the Texas Jr. Brahmas. Travis Visvardra was perfect between the pipes in a 4-0 shutout for the West Dundee Leafs over the Clearwater Ice Storm. Chicago Jets forward Kasper Zabawa scored twice in a 4-1 win over Mission Arizona. Chicago Bruins defenseman Derrick Graves handed out 3 assists helping his team to a 6-4 victory over the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves. Caleb Bross netted two goals for the Chesterfield Falcons as they defeated the Cherry Creek Hockey Academy, 5-3. Affton Americans netminder Timothy Barbee Jr. earned a shutout against Monument Hockey Academy, 7-0. Anaheim Jr. Ducks goaltender, Caleb Martinez earned a shoutout stopping all 23 shots in a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Sting. PHA Icemen forward Akezhan Melis recorded 3 points in a 5-1 win over the Gurnee Vipers. Tri-State Spartans forward Hunter Gentz scored in overtime for a 3-2 win over the Ogden Mustangs. Andrew Houser handed out two assists in a 3-2 win for the Texas Tigers over the Orland Park Vikings. Philadelphia Little Flyers goaltender Matthew Beatty earned a shutout against the Columbus Thunderbirds, 5-0. 

16U Division: Demetri Fallidas scored twice in a 3-2 win for the Highland Park Falcons over the Clearwater Ice Storm, 3-2. Grady Sulkin stopped all 15 shots he faced in a 5-0 shutout for the Chicago Bulldogs over the Park City Ice Miners. Gurnee Viper forwards Joseph Barrington-Nate and Logan Ciszewski both recorded two points in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blues. Nicholas Scavone scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-1 victory for the Chicago Jets over the St. Louis Sting. West Dundee Leafs defeated Monument Hockey Academy, 6-2. Fred Bramstedt had a 7 point night with four goals and three assists in a 12-2 win for the Affton Americans over the Columbus Thunderbirds. St. Louis Sting forward Mack Eisenbeis scored twice and had an assist in a 4-3 victory against Mission Arizona. Geneva Cyclones forward Anton Blaskovich scored a hat-trick in a 6-3 win against the Arizona Bobcats. Josh Reaume of the Orland Park Vikings netted two goals in a 4-3 overtime win against the Chicago Bruins. Ryan Knauss found the back of the net twice in a 4-2 win for the Northwest Chargers over the Highland Park Falcons. Orland Park Vikings forward Jacob Mish gave two assists out in a 4-2 final against the Gulf Coast Flames. Zachary Huffman and Austin Bullock both scored a goal and added an assist for the Gurnee Vipers 4-2 win over the Arizona Hockey Union. Zach Highfill only allowed one goal out of 30 shots in a 2-1 win for the Affton Americans over the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves. Chicago Hawks forward Liam Lecauchois scored twice in a 5-1 win over the Texas Tigers. West Dundee Leafs forward Caleb Handley scored in overtime for a 2-1 win against the Indy Jr. Fuel. Naperville Sabres forward Andrew Eurkaitis scored twice in a 3-2 win over the Littleton Hawks. Chicago Jets defender Chris Cerven scored 4 points (2G, 2A) in a 5-2 win against the PHA Icemen. Ethan Rodgers scored two goals in a 7-2 win for the Chicago Bruins over the Clearwater Ice Storm. Chicago Hawks goaltender Joey Conrad earned a shutout stopping all 47 shots he faced in a 3-0 final against the Montana Big Sky Stars. Boston Bradshaw of the Park City Ice Miners totalled 3 points in a 5-4 win over the Chicago Jets. Chicago Bulldogs Mason Kading found totalled 6 points (4G, 2A) in a 9-2 final against the Chicago Blues. St. Louis Sting forwards Tannan Nenninger and Hank Fusco both scored two goals in a 4-2 win against the Gurnee Vipers. Alex Walczak of the West Dundee Leafs netted two goals in a 4-1 win over the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves. Chicago Hawks Maksym Washchuk recorded 3 points in a 6-3 final over the Littleton Hawks. Orland Park Vikings goaltender Max Cook shutout the Monument Hockey Academy 2-0. Naperville Sabres netminder Tug Staudacher shutout the Clearwater Ice Storm 7-0. 

14U Division: Vincent Rigley scored two goals and added an assist in a 9-3 win for Montana Big Sky Stars over the El Paso Jr. Rhinos. West Dundee netminder Ryan Schmid stopped all the shots he faced in a 3-0 shutout over the Atlanta Madhatters. Chicago Blues goaltender Tyler Bruno earned the shutout in a 2-0 win over the Portland Jr. Winterhawks. Park City Ice Miners goalie Oakley Frei shutout the Columbus Vikings in a 5-0 final. Thomas Pickett scored three goals and added an assist for the St. Louis Sting in a 6-2 win against the Chicago Bruins. Highland Park Falcons forward Drake Boyer scored to win the game in overtime 5-4 against the Chicago Jets. Arizona Hockey Union forward EJ Green netted two goals in a 5-1 victory against the Orland Park Vikings. PJ Johnson scored a goal and added an assist for the Gulf Coast Flames in a 5-3 win against the PHA Icemen. Jason Williams of the St. Louis Knights added two points in a 3-2 win against the St. Louis Eagles. Enzo Gisler scored a hat-trick and added two assists in a 10-0 shutout against the El Paso Jr. Rhinos. Chicago Blues defenseman Drew Gami scored twice in a 4-3 win over the Gurnee Vipers. Naperville Sabres goaltender Jake Stanish stopped all 38 shots in a 6-0 shutout against the Chicago Bruins. Littleton Hawks forward Keegan Carnesi scored twice in a 4-1 win against the St. Louis Sting. Dylan Greenwald of the Chicago Jets found the back of the net twice against the West Dundee Leafs in a 3-2 final. St. Louis Knights defenseman Jake Goldfarb assisted in two goals for a win against Arizona Hockey Union, 3-2. Highland Park Falcons netminder Thomas Steiner earned the shutout in a 3-0 win against the Atlanta Madhatters. Chicago Hawks goalie Tyler Wilson stopped all 45 shots to shutout the Portland Jr. Winterhawks 6-0. Gulf Coast Flames goaltender Oliver Spaulding shutout the Park City Ice Miners, 2-0. Owen Martin added a goal and an assist for the PHA Icemen win over the Columbus Vikings, 5-2. Luke Lange scored a goal and an assist for the St. Louis Eagles in a 5-2 win against the Orland Park Vikings. Arizona Bobcats goaltender Austen Gearhart shutout the Montana Big Sky Stars in a 6-0 final.
