Northwest 18U forward Shahan signs NAHL tender

November 3, 2021

The Northwest Stars of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U forward Kaden Shahan has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Chippewa Steel of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.

Shahan, 16, is currently in his third season playing in the NAPHL for the Northwest Stars organization. The 5’10/160 lbs. native of Everett, WA, is currently tied for the team scoring lead with 16 points (9 goals, 7 assists) in 12 games played.

“Kaden is a buzzsaw on the ice.  He is a tireless worker, which makes life very hard for opposing defensemen.  He possesses pucks very well and elevates the play of his linemates,” stated Steel Head Coach Casey Mignone.

During the 2020-21 season, Shahan played for the Northwest Stars 16U team, where he led the team in scoring with 26 points in 17 NAPHL games.

He was also selected to and played in a 2020-21 NAPHL 16U All-Star Game, where he had an assist in the game.

Shahan also played in the NAPHL during the 2018-19 season for the Everett Silvertips Elite 14U team.

He is the first player from the Northwest Stars 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on November 1st. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2022 NAHL Draft.
