NAPHL concludes fourth event in Minnesota

The Chicago Jets 18U team were one of four teams that went undefeated with a 4-0 record at the first event of the season in Blaine.

On Monday, October 18th the NAPHL concluded its fourth event of the 2021-22 season as the Showcase League wrapped up play in the 18U Division in its first event of the season, while action continued in the FALL League with the Championship Games and T1ER West Conference teams also began play.

The October event in Blaine will feature three of the NAPHL’s different leagues as the T1ER, FALL, and SHOW are all in action.

Day 4 Recaps

18U Division:  The 18U Fall League decided its Fall League championship on Monday, as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Southern Minnesota Bears battled for supremacy. Tied at one goal apiece entering the third, John Kremer and Nick Landin each found twine for the Ice Dogs to carry them to a 3-1 win in the deciding tilt.

The rest of the Fall League took the ice for consolation action as well, as the Wilderness shut out the Brahmas 3-0, the Magicians rode a late-game burst past Kenai River 3-1 and Janesville thumped Chippewa 5-1 to cap things off.

The Showcase League saw plenty of action on the final day. The Dallas Penguins got things started with a 6-3 win over the Northwest Chargers, Naperville took a 4-3 OT thriller over PHA Icemen, Tri-Valley knocked off Highland Park 3-2 on a late Matvey Ivanov goal and the Jets ousted Mission Arizona 4-2. Orland Park opened the next round of games with a 5-2 win over Cherry Creek, while Gurnee shut out Arizona Hockey Union 3-0, Littleton scored four in the third to beat Clearwater 5-1 and Affton cruised past El Paso 14-0.

Finally, Anaheim struck early in the extra frame to top the St. Louis Sting 2-1 in OT, the Chicago Bruins outgunned the Columbus Thunderbirds 4-1, the Chicago Hawks took a 2-1 shootout win over Philadelphia AA and the Texas Tigers topped Chesterfield 5-4 in OT as Peyton Yoder grabbed his second of the game. Closing out the Showcase action, West Dundee steamrolled Monument in a 10-0 romp, Big Sky picked up a 5-2 win over Ogden and Tri-State rode a four-goal final frame past New Mexico 6-3.

In T1ER action, Northwest topped Team Alaska 5-1, Tahoe edged out Arizona 4-3 in OT, Shattuck St. Mary’s rolled over West Coast 6-0 and the Jersey Whalers and Ontario Jr. Reign concluded the day with consecutive 3-0 shutouts of Colorado Springs and Madison, respectively.

16U Division: The closing day of 16U action in Blaine was also highlighted by the Fall League championship, with the Southern Minnesota Bears and Minnesota Magicians duking it out. Ethan Dennis and Mason Decker each scored twice as the Bears outgunned the Magicians for a 5-3 win and the championship title.

In other Fall League play, Fairbanks scored four in the second period to take down Chippewa 5-3 and Janesville blitzed the Wilderness for a 10-2 victory.

Four T1ER games also filled the Monday slate. Arizona opened with a 6-3 win over West Coast, while Vegas shutout Northwest 2-0 and Ontario rode a late flurry past Madison 4-1. Colorado Springs closed things out with a comfortable 4-0 shutout of Tahoe Prep.
