Northstar 18U defenseman Napier signs NAHL tender

February 5, 2021

The Northstar Knights of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Jacob Napier has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL’s Central Division.

Napier, 17, is in his second season playing for the Knights program in the NAPHL. The 6’2/190 lbs. native of Lancaster, New York, was 7th among all NAPHL 18U defensemen in scoring this season with 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) while playing in only 12 NAPHL games in 2020-21. He was named the NAPHL’s 18U Defensive Peak Performer for the month of September.

Overall in 35 games played during the 2020-21 season, Napier has recorded 44 points. Back on November 5, 2020, Napier committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Western Michigan University in the NCHC.

During the 2019-20 season, he played for the Knights 18U team as a 16-year-old, recording nine points in 12 NAPHL games. He also played in the 2019-20 NAPHL 16U All-Star Game, where he had a goal and an assist.

Prior to playing for Northstar in the NAPHL, Napier played for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres at the 15U and 14U levels.

He is the eighth player from the Knights 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2021 NAHL Draft.
