Spartans 18U forward McGuire signs NAHL tender

July 10, 2020

The Seacoast Spartans, formerly of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U forward and NAPHL All-Star Kevin McGuire has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Maine Nordiques of the NAHL’s East Division.

McGuire, 18, played in his first full NAPHL season in 2019-20 and second overall with the Spartans. The 6’2/154 lbs. native of Salem, New Hampshire, led his team in scoring during the 2019-20 season with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) in 17 games played.

McGuire was selected to play in the 2019-20 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game, but could not attend the event.

McGuire has averaged over a point per game in his last two seasons combined with the Spartans, tallying 96 points in 94 games over those two seasons.

McGuire had with the Nordiques prior to the season being shut down. When asked about Kevin, Head Coach Nolan Howe stated, “Kevin is a competitive young man, someone we have been tracking for some time now, and we were happy to have him accept his tender offer. Kevin has skated with us in the past and did well, he is a strong skater with good size and hockey IQ, and he adds depth to our forward group. We look forward to having him and all of our players in attendance at our Main Camp in August to compete for a spot on our final roster.”

“Having participated in Kevin’s development over the years, welcoming him to the Organization was extremely rewarding. His character, speed, and skills should contribute nicely to our group. We look forward to helping him grow on and off the ice,” said Associate Head Coach Matt Pinchevsky.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on July 21, 2020.
