Team Maryland, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Sean Kilcullen was called up to the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to play for the Maryland Black Bears.
Kilcullen, 17, is currently in his first season playing for the Team Maryland 18U team. He has played for Team Maryland since the 2016-17 season. During his time with the organization, he has lead two teams to the USA Hockey National Championships.
“Playing for the Black Bears this past weekend was an amazing experience. I was extremely honored and excited to be a part of the team. I am just so thankful to the players and coaches from the Black Bears and Team Maryland for the opportunity,” said Kilcullen.
“We thought Sean was very steady in his Maryland Black Bear debut. It’s a big step and I thought he did a great job filling in for us. We were impressed with his ability to make plays under pressure, and the way he thinks the game, is very impressive for a young player,” said Black Bears head coach Clint Mylymok.
In 11 NAPHL games this season, the 6’0/165 lbs. native of Kensington, Maryland has three points.
“I couldn’t be prouder and happier for Sean,” said Team Maryland Hockey Director Chris Ceransky, “He is a great young man and he puts the work in. He’s a great example that you don’t have to be loud to be good and that there is still some humble people left. It was a huge weekend for him and our program. Maryland is the place to be if you want to get better and move on. You just have to put in the work.”
