Colorado Springs 18U defenseman French signs NAHL tender

June 3, 2019
The Colorado Springs Tigers of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Brice French has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Kenai River Brown Bears of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.

French, 18, has played his last three years in the NAPHL, including the past two years for the Tigers. The 6’2/190 lbs. native of Fairbanks, Alaska served as team captain in 2018-19 while posting 5 goals and 19 points to go with 82 penalty minutes on the season. That included six points in 20 NAPHL games played in 2018-19.

Overall in three years of playing in the NAPHL, French has appeared in 60 career games and recorded 14 points.

“I couldn’t be happier for Brice,” stated Tigers 18U Head Coach Kevin Holmstrom. “Brice has been absolutely dedicated to improving every aspect of his game on and off the ice and this is a great accomplishment. His leadership and work ethic have definitely left a positive impact on our club and I trust the Brown Bears will see the same.”

French is the 4th player overall from the Colorado Springs Tigers 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
