Rocky Mountain coach Phelps accepts NAHL coaching position
May 7, 2019
The Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce the addition of Brendan Phelps to the Wilderness Coaching Staff.
Coach Phelps will take on the role of Assistant Coach for the 2019-20 season. Phelps hails from California, but spent most of his youth and starting-career in the hotbed of hockey near Denver, Colorado.
“We slowed down and took the time to make sure we found the right person to join our team,” said Wilderness Head Coach Dave Boitz. “We were looking for a humble, self-starter with the ability to make decisions on the ice and in the locker room that move the entire organization forward. We think Coach Phelps will fill that role nicely and brings a positive, “team-first” mentality into the rink.”
Phelps’ spent that last few years coaching the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders in the NAPHL and developing STPHockey, cultivating the program from a grass-roots level to now helping develop some of Colorado’s most elite hockey players, current NHL draft picks, and NCAA Division I college players.
“Brendan’s success with the RoughRiders and STPHockey shows his willingness to grind through hours at the rink and in the coaching office; that type of dedication and commitment is exactly what we are looking for in our players and especially our staff. We are excited for Coach Phelps to join our organization and tap into his perspective and skill," continued Boitz.
