Sioux Falls 18U forward Wieben signs NAHL tender

February 7, 2019
The Sioux Falls Power hockey club of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) is pleased to announce that 18U forward Nick Wieben has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL’s South Division.

Wieben, 18, is another great example of the Ladder of Development success in the NAPHL, NA3HL, and NAHL. The 5’9/175 lbs. native of Mankato, Minnesota, tied for the team scoring lead this season with 11 points in just 12 NAPHL games.

Last season, Wieben played as a 17-year-old in the NA3HL for the New Ulm Steel, recording 17 points in 42 games played.

Prior to that, Wieben played the 2016-17 season in the NAPHL, playing for the Omaha AAA 16U team, where he recorded 17 points in 21 NAPHL games.

Wieben becomes the fifth player from the Sioux Falls Power 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
