ON THE BOARD: Shattuck St. Mary’s had struggled to find offense, falling short in each of their initial two outings. But Saturday saw them notch their first win, a 3-2 overtime decision over the Northeast Voyageurs. Kaleb Ross netted the game-winner for Shattuck in its third game, and the team looks ahead to its fourth Sunday at 1 p.m.

ON THE DE-FENCE: Two of Saturday’s contests ended regulation time with no goals being scored, requiring extra time or shootout to produce the game’s first tally. Valley Forge/TPH Thunder went all the way to a shootout in the middle of the day, which TPH won, thanks to Brendan Ogle. Sioux Falls/Lake Forest capped off the day’s games, and needed an overtime period to see its first goal. Brendan Bartoo snapped the 0-0 deadlock with his first of the year midway through OT after more than 60 minutes of scoreless hockey.

16U
WELL-OILED: The Alaska Oilers have simply cruised through competition since the opening puck drop. Now boasting three wins out of three and a +22 goal differential early in the campaign, the Oilers are proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Forwards Bret Link (5g-7a-12pts), Aiden Westin (2g-7a-9pts) and Nikita Asylaev (5g-3a-8pts) have led the way to this point, and the Oilers look to continue their hot start on Sunday.

PIKU PUTS ON A SHOW: Branden Piku of Meijer AAA impressed many with his third-period tying tally against the Minnesota Blizzard, but it was his game-winner in overtime that dazzled hockey fans everywhere. With the puck on his stick behind the net, Piku scooped it onto his blade before depositing it into the top right corner of the net in one motion, lacrosse-style. The famed “Michigan Move” garnered plenty of media attention online and lifted Meijer to a well-deserved victory. Oh yeah... I was also the #2 play in ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10! Watch it here

HUNTER/HUNTED: The Nashville Jr. Predators were flying high into Saturday’s contest — two wins, a star showing to that point from Kolton Watts (6g-2a-8pts, two games) — but the Metro NW Green Giants saw to it that their hot streak cooled off. Notching a goal in each period and holding Watts off the board entirely, the Green Giants earned their second win in three games at the expense of the streaking Predators.

SEEING DOUBLE: Few players have dominated the competition quite like Chaz and Cruz Lucius of Gentry Academy. Chaz boasts 11g-8a-19pts, including two GWG, in just 3 outings, while Cruz has acted as the setup man, nabbing 2g-11a-13pts in as many game. The pair has helped lift Gentry to its 3-0-0 start to the year, and will undoubtedly turn more and more heads as they rack up the points during this campagin.
