HIGH FIVE: Nine of the 18 teams that took the ice posted five or more goals in today’s action. Lake Tahoe Academy, Esmark Stars, Iowa Wild, Thunder Bay Kings, Carshield AAA, MHA Michigan, TPH Thunder, AHAI, and South Gray Ducks each struck for a quintet of tallies, and each won its respective outing.

A LITTLE BIT EXTRA: Just two games required overtime to be decided on Thursday, as the Rocky Mountain Roughriders dropped Omaha by a 2-1 margin and the Metro NW Green Giants defeated the Florida Alliance after bonus hockey. Forward Nate Mohr stole the show for the Roughriders, netting each of their two goals to help his team get off on the right foot in gameday one, while Nick Richert bagged the winner for the Green Giants.

HATS OFF: Lake Tahoe’s Jonah Fleisher was the lone skater to net a hat-trick in day one, scoring three of his team’s five goals in its 5-3 victory over Florida Alliance. Fleischer lit the lamp in each period during the contest.

16U

ALASKA ACES THE TEST: The Alaska Oilers were firing on all cylinders on Wednesday, posting 12 goals while limiting the Indy Fuel to just two during their contest. Four Oilers bagged multiple goals, two added four assists and a total of 16 recorded at least one point during Alaska’s romp. The Oilers also fired a total of 43 shots during the game, in turn holding Indy to just nine pucks on net.

SHUTTING THE DOOR: Two teams in the 16U division managed to keep their opponents out of the net in match day one. TPH Thunder shutout the Valley Forge Minutemen in an 8-0 win, as netminder Alec Devries stopped all 17 pucks that came his way. Elsewhere in the Super Rink, the Esmark Stars held strong to earn a 2-0 victory over the Janesville Jets, thanks to their goaltender, Connor Strobel.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING: As the Minnesota Magicians faced a 2-1 deficit with fewer than four minutes to play against Carshield, Nick Cofer found twine to rescue his team in the waning moments to force overtime. But fellow Magician Nick Mountain wasted no time once play continued after 60 minutes, striking in just 44 seconds to complete the comeback.

15U

SWEET SIXTEEN: With a whopping eight goals in the opening frame, three in the second and five in the third period, Gentry Academy were in fine fashion during their 16-0 win over the Nashville Jr. Predators. Chaz and Cruz Lucius led the way with a stunning combined 5g-10a-15pts, Bennett Schimek netted a hat-trick and three assists and goaltender Cole Wheaton turned aside six of six shots against in the victory.

ONE IS ALL YOU NEED: During a day when five of the eight 15U games featured five or more total goals, the TPH Thunder’s 1-0 victory over the Esmark Stars bucked the trend. George Goodwin’s marker at 4:56 of the second period proved to be the game-winner, as both teams’ goaltenders stood tall throughout the affair.
