Tampa 18U forward Pokorny signs NAHL tender
November 27, 2017
The Tampa Scorpions of the NAPHL are pleased to announce that 18U forward Stepan Pokorny has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL’s Central Division.
Pokorny, 17, is in his second season with the Tampa Scorpions organization. The native of Kolin, Czech Republic, is off to a great start for the 18U Scorpions in NAPHL play this season. Through the first three events of the season, Pokorny (5’11/180) is tied for the NAPHL 18U scoring lead with 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 11 games played.
His best stretch of games came during the last event in Troy, Michigan earlier in November. In 5 games at the event he recorded 11 points as the Scorpions stayed in good position towards the top spot with a perfect 5-0 record at the event. The Scorpions sit in 2nd place through three events with a 9-1-1 record and 19 points. Pokorny had multi-point outings in all five games and had a three-point game in a 5-2 win against Thunder Bay.
Last season, Pokorny played for the Tampa Scorpions 16U team. Prior to that, he played in his home country of the Czech Republic for the HC Hradec Kralove 18U and 16U teams and also SC Kolin. He also has international playing experience with the Czech Republic 16U team.
He is the first player from the Tampa Scorpions organization who has signed an NAHL tender agreement this season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
