NAPHL releases 2017-18 event locations and dates

June 1, 2017
The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) has announced the event locations and dates for the 2017-18 season, including the first event of the season at the 15th annual NAHL Showcase, which will be held from September 21-24, 2017 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

The NAPHL has enjoyed a record-breaking amount of advancement in recent seasons, which is highlighted by a large amount of advancement of players to the NAHL.  During the 2016-17 season, over 15% of NAHL rosters were made up of NAPHL alumni, with 90+ alumni appearing on NAHL rosters over the course of the season. Founded in 2009, the NAPHL continues to establish itself as one of the premier grounds for development and exposure. The success of teams on the National stage, as well as the success of NAPHL players at the next levels of hockey, is further proof that the NAPHL is redefining exposure and has elevated itself to one of the premier training grounds for development and opportunity.

The 2017-18 season is shaping up to be another great one for player advancement. No other USA Hockey Midget Tier I league has had more players sign NAHL tenders for the upcoming season than the NAPHL, with 45 players from this past season currently signed to play in the NAHL. In addition, the NAPHL has seen 36 players selected during the past two years of the USHL Draft.

The NAPHL is also excited to announce that the 2017-18 season will feature a new format designed to increase competition and competitive balance within each division. Details of the new format will be released shortly.

“This is an exciting time for the NAPHL and its member clubs. We are coming off another incredible season of advancement and exposure for NAPHL players and we look to continue and build upon that for this upcoming season,” said new NAPHL Director and NAHL Director of Player Personnel Tony Zasowski. “In addition, we have some exciting format changes for the league that will be revealed shortly as we strive to maintain the competitive balance within the league on an event-by-event basis.”

The NAPHL, which will be celebrating its 9th season in 2017-18, is currently composed of 47 Midget Major (18U) and Midget Minor (16U and 15U) teams from across North America that compete at the USA Hockey Tier I level.

Each NAPHL 18U and 16U team will play 20 regular season games and there will be six different events during the 2017-18 season. The six events that compose the NAPHL schedule are spread amongst just two locations. The Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN will host four events and the Troy Sports Center in Troy, MI will host two events during the 2017-18 season.

The 15U Division teams will play nine regular season games at the September and October events, followed by their Championship event in December.

In addition to the NAPHL teams playing four games at all the events, each event will also be open to guest teams and those playing in the NAHL Future Prospects Tournaments during the events in October and December. The intent and goal of the Future Prospects events is to provide the aspiring hockey player an opportunity to take part in a one-of-a-kind learning experience. Each Future Prospects Tournament is designed to maximize exposure, education and experience at grand-scale events by providing a glimpse into a true "NAHL EXPERIENCE".
