Meijer 18U goalie Murray signs NAHL tender

May 22, 2017
The Meijer AAA hockey club of the NAPHL is pleased to announce that 18U goaltender Liam Murray has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Minot Minotauros of the NAHL’s Central Division.

Murray, 17, just completed his first season of playing in the NAPHL for the Meijer AAA 18U team.  The 6’5/185 lbs. native of Okemos, Michigan, was one of the top goalies in the 18U Division this season, which included a 10-2-2 record to go along with a 1.70 goals against average and a 92.3% save percentage.

Murray led the Meijer AAA 18U team to their second straight NAPHL Championship Game appearance, where he led all goaltenders in playoff statistics. In the Semi-Finals, he made 22 saves in a 3-2 win over St. Louis. In the Championship game, Murray made 24 saves through regulation and overtime, but Meijer ultimately fell 2-1 to the Madison Capitols in a shootout.

Murray was twice named as one of the 18U Goaltender Peak Performers this season, earning the #3 star on both September and December.

Murray made his NAHL debut this season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights in April. He played in two games and posted two wins, making 21 saves in each game.

Murray is the 5th player from the Meijer AAA 18U team who has signed an NAHL tender for the 2017-18 season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 6, 2017.
