HC Dallas 18U goalie Smith signs NAHL tender

April 22, 2016
The HC Dallas Hockey Club, proud members of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U goaltender Hunter Smith has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Aston Rebels of the NAHL’s East Division.

Smith, 18, just completed his third season of playing in the NAPHL and first in the 18U Division. The native of Flower Mound, Texas, led the NAPHL 18U Division this season with a 94.8% save percentage and was 5th in goals against average with a 1.59 mark. He also had three shutouts, which was one behind the division leaders. During the 2015-16 season, Smith faced a total of 406 shots in 14 appearances (29 shots per game) and allowed just 21 goals during the season.

Smith (6’1/198) was also selected to and played in the 2015-16 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game in Troy, MI back in January. At the conclusion of the season, Smith was named to the All-NAPHL 18U 2nd Team. He has also been an NAPHL All-Academic Selection the past two seasons.

Smith played in the NAPHL both in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons for the HC Dallas/Texas Tornado 16U teams. During the 2014-15 season, Smith played in the NAPHL 16U All-Star Game and was 2nd in the league in saves that season, while posting a 91.1% save percentage. In his NAPHL career, Smith has played in 36 career regular season games and three playoff games.

Smith is the second HC Dallas player from the 18U team this season to sign an NAHL tender joining Louis Helsen (Odessa).

A tender is a contract a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 7, 2016.
